Dortmund signed Erling Haaland during the winter transfer window of 2019. He debuted for Dortmund on 18th of January 2020 and within 23 minutes he had a hat-trick to his name. In the following two matches he scored two goals in each game, announcing his arrival on the German lands in a grandiose way.

The 20-year-old Norwegian international has definitely caught the eyes of the critics and the fans this season. He is on the 6th spot when it comes to top goal scorers in Bundesliga and he didn’t participate the whole season, indeed quite a stat for one who is touted to be a prolific goal-scorer.

Haaland scored a brace for Dortmund in the Champions League in his first appearance itself. Sadly Dortmund got knocked out of the Champions League in the 2nd leg of the round of 16 by PSG. He is also the only teenager to score 10 goals in the UEFA Champions League. No other teenager had hit the figure in one season. With only 40 appearances this season for both Red Bull Salzburg and Dortmund he found the back of the net 44 times and also provided 10 assists this season, which speaks for his finishing and all-round ability.

Although he does exceptionally well in football he was recently involved in a controversy. He was thrown out of a club during a weekend because allegedly he was drunk but the security personnel then clarified that due to COVID 19 regulations there would be a lot of people surrounding Haaland which could be harmful as it defies the social distancing norms.

Manchester United was keen on signing the 20-year-old during the winter transfer window but instead, he signed for Dortmund. Although with his form and field presence it looks like Haaland might get comfortable at Dortmund for a few years and it would be a pleasure for the yellow wall to watch this beast of a player play for them in the coming matches. Even though the red devils failed to sign Haaland the announcement of the signing of his teammate Jadon Sancho might be done in the coming few days.

Another big-money signing in the making?

Borussia Dortmund are known for their business strategies in recent years. They scout great young talents from across Europe, nurture them into a promising prospect or even a world-class player like in the case of Jadon Sancho, only to sell them at record prices.

Despite making his move as recently as a few months, Erling Haaland has been linked recently with Real Madrid as their prime target for a forward in the coming years. It would be a huge advantage for The Los Blancos to sign such an exceptional player. Haaland’s release clause won’t be active until 2022 and his release clause would be $82 million.

If he keeps up with his goals and continuously produces match-winning goals and brilliant performances then definitely Haaland’s market value would increase. He could even break the world record transfer of 222 million euros of Neymar from Barcelona to PSG. Haaland’s contract at Dortmund expires in 2024.

Because of his goal-scoring abilities and his clinical finishing, the fans had named him the terminator. Dortmund’s 2020/21 season looks hopeful. Erling Haaland shows a promising future for Dortmund but we still have to find out if he is the key to Dortmund being crowned the german champions after 9 years of total domination by Bayern Munich.

With Jadon Sancho departing in the coming days it would be interesting to watch which role Dortmund will assign Haaland. Dortmund can use the coming months to focus on how to properly utilize the 20-year-old ‘Terminator’ for the 2020/21 campaign.
