The Catalan giants and the Bavarians will go face to face on the 15th of August at a neutral venue in Lisbon. Bayern Munich look fierce after defeating Chelsea in the round of 16 with an aggregate of 7-1. It has become a hobby for Bayern to destroy London clubs in the UEFA Champions League. Bayern has faced Arsenal, Spurs, and Chelsea in the last few years and beat all three of them with a total aggregate of 27-6, a total 27 goals against London clubs.

Talking about Barcelona, they recently beat Napoli to secure a spot in the Quarter Finals, with Lenglet’s brilliant header, Messi solo goal, and Suarez’s penalty goal they beat the Italian team with a total of 4-2 in aggregate. Although Barca has secured a spot in the Quarter Finals, it won’t be an easy path they have to face Bayern Munich and the Germans have had a brilliant season in the German League.

Bayern recently won the Bundesliga title for 9th consecutive time, Lewandowski being the highest goals contributor of the season. Lewandowksi has played a crucial role in this season for the Bavarians. He has scored 59 goals since the inception of this season. 13 of the goals he scored were in UCL in only 7 matches. If Barcelona somehow manages to contain this machine of a player, there might be hopes for Barcelona to move to the semis.

On the other hand, Barcelona has had a pretty rocky road to tread in the Spanish league. The Blaugrana slipped up in the last couple of matches resulting in the loss of the title. They even got knocked out of Copa del Rey. So, their only shot at winning major silverware this season is the UCL. This will definitely motivate the players to give their best.

Both the teams have brilliant Goalkeepers, both of them being Germans. Manuel Neuer has been amazing this season at Bayern. In the Champions League, he has managed to maintain 4 clean sheets from the 8 matches he played and has conceded only 6 goals in all the 700 minutes he played.

Marc Andre Ter Stegen has only 2 clean sheets this season in the Champions League but he has conceded only 5 goals from all the 7 matches he appeared in. It will definitely be an interesting rivalry to watch this Saturday.

In the match against Napoli the player that truly stood out from others was Frenkie De Jong. He surely deserves a place in the playing XI for Saturday’s match after the last performance. It will be interesting to see how Setien will line-up since Dembele, Busquets, Vidal are back.

Bayern definitely didn’t hold back when it comes to talking to the media. Recently Lothas Matthaus has stated that Lewandowski is the best player in the world and Messi alone can’t beat Bayern. Barcelona will be keen to reciprocate to that press conference on the field of play.

Saturday’s match will be truly interesting and intriguing to how Setien’s men will manage to stop Robert Lewandowski and what kind of plan does Hans Flick come up with to stop Lionel Messi.
