This team has given some spectacular performances in the past, winning the IPL twice under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. It is one of the teams under the Knight Riders brand with its counterpart, the Trinbago Knight Riders playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Trinbago won the CPL recently. Will Kolkata be able to replicate Trinbago’s success? Let’s have a look at how Kolkata could line up this season.

#1. The Opening Pair:

Having opened for Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants in the past Rahul Tripathi is a good opening choice for KKR. Going by the trend, he will be most probably partnered by Sunil Narine. Other than these two, Kolkata doesn’t have a lot of opening options.

#2. The Middle Order:

The KKR has plenty of options here. The middle order will be composed of Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell.

The availability of Eoin Morgan is unsure in the initial matches due to the small gap between the completion of the ongoing England-Australia ODI series. But this will be the batting order of KKR for majority of the series. In the absence of Eoin Morgan, Siddhesh Lad is a good option.

#3. The Bowling department of team KKR:

The spin department will be headed by Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine. Due to the cap of 4 overseas players, in the pace department only one of Lockie Ferguson and Pat Cummins will get to play. Pat Cummins has the same availability problems as Eoin Morgan. Hence in his absence, Lockie Ferguson will definitely be a part of the team.

It will be interesting to see who partners either of the two in the pace department. There are atleast three good bowling options in the form of Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Nagarkoti and Mavi are young pace prodigies and have proven themselves in the past in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup. Prasidh Krishna has experience of playing in the previous season and he can be chosen as well. It would also be interesting to see if some new face gets a break. But that’s highly unlikely. Overall, the bowling attack is really good.

KKR has a really good balance in their team in every department , has a good mix of the young and experienced as well as domestic/overseas players. If the players are in good form and if the team gets its selection right, KKR will easily enter the Play-Offs. A lot depends on the leadership of Dinesh Karthik. Karthik will keep for KKR but can he replicate the success of M.S Dhoni?

Brendon McCullum is the head coach. Being a former KKR player himself, he understands the KKR Culture well. This will be advantageous for the team. Time will answer some questions. Until then, binge on your Roshogullas and stay tuned.

For me the first KKR eleven considering everyone is available is
    1. Narine
    3. Nitish Rana
    4. Morgan
    5. Dk
    6. DreRuss
    7. Rinku/Lad
