A Brief on the Royal Challengers Bangalore – Will Kohli’s challenge be Royal this time ?

The biggest cricketing event of the country starts day after tomorrow. The teams will fight for the bragging rights and the glory. Today we will explore a team which has been the strongest on paper for years. Yet surprisingly, has never managed to win a single edition of the IPL. Let alone winning, they have also struggled to enter into the top half of the table and are often termed as the ‘Chokers’ of the tournament. Yes, we are talking about the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The team representing the IT hub of the country. It’s led by the captain of the Indian national team, the extremely talented, Virat Kohli. It also has other giants such as AB De Villiers and Dale Steyn among others. These names are enough to instill fear in the minds of the competing teams. But this has always been the case with RCB. Such big names were always there. But success wasn’t . With this backdrop, let’s explore how the team would line-up this year.

#1. The Opening Pair:

The opening pair for the RCB will most likely be Parthiv Patel and Aaron Finch. The inclusion of the destructive Finch will surely prove to be a great addition to the RCB side. Parthiv Patel will keep the wickets for RCB. Apart from these two, RCB doesn’t have a lot of opening options. Devdutt Padikkal is a young talent who bats in the top order and can be considered by RCB because his performance for the Karnataka Ranji Team has been impressive.

#2. The Middle Order:

RCB probably has the strongest middle order on paper of all the teams playing in IPL. Virat Kohli will play at number three. He will be followed at ‘Mr. 360 degree’, the multi-talented erstwhile South African skipper AB De Villiers.

They will be followed by Shivam Dube and either of Pawan Negi or Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Either of Chris Morris or Moeen Ali will play as the all-rounder depending upon whether the pitch supports pace attack or spin. Apart from these players, chances of any other players playing in the middle order are slim.

#3. The Bowling Department of Royal Challengers Bangalore:

RCB has some good players in its bowling attack. The spin attack will be lead by Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sunder. If they play only one spinner, Navdeep Saini will get to play instead of Washington Sunder. Umesh Yadav will surely get a spot in the playing XI. Either of Dale Steyn or Adam Zampa will be picked depending on the weather conditions, requirements as well as availability and fitness of the players.

Navdeep Saini will have some competition in the form of Mohammad Siraj for a place in the playing XI. Shahbaz Ahmed is a all rounder from the Bengal Ranji team and can also get a chance to play a match or two.

The RCB team looks to be the good enough on paper. But until now, the proverb ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth’ has been true for them. Can they put an end to this jinx? We will soon get these answers. Until then, code hard and stay tuned.
