5 deadliest corner defenders pairs of PKL

Corner defenders are the most influential in the defensive department of teams in Kabaddi. Corners initiate tackling movements and having stable pair of corners gives you upper hand in game. Technically, both corner positions have the longest distance in between, still a perfect co-ordination is necessary. Pro Kabaddi League has seen many prolific corners but many of then failed to form a successful pair. So let’s have a look at PKL’s five most successful corner defenders pairs.

Abozar Mighani – Vishal Bharadwaj

Pro Kabaddi Season 5 was breakthrough season for defenders. Left corner Vishal Bharadwaj established himself in Telugu Titans and right corner Abozar Mighani had great debut with Gujarat Fortune Giants. Telugu Titans bought Iranian Abozar and beast formed destructive pair with captain Vishal in Season 6. The pair played two seasons together and scored total 116 tackle points for Telugu Titans. Where Vishal contributed 60 points and Abozar Mighani contributed 56 points.

Abozar replaced his partner Vishal Bharadwaj as captain ahead of Season 7. Captaincy pressure had a bad effect on Abozar’s performance and he only scored 39 tackle points. Vishal added 62 tackle points in pair total of 101 in season 7. Both players are still part of team and Telugu will rely on both defensive pillars in future.

Sandeep Narwal – Girish Ernak

Both corners arrived Puneri Paltan in Season 5. Where Girish Maruti Ernak was part of Bengal Warriors and Sandeep Narwal played for Telugu Titans in season 4. The pair of right corner Sandeep Narwal (52) and left corner Girish Maruti Ernak (64) scored total 116 tackle points in the season. Puneri Paltan finished their campaign standing on 2nd in Zone A and got knocked by Champions Patna Pirates in Eliminator 3.

Puneri Paltan had forgettable campaign in Season 6 while star duo managed 97 tackle points. Sandeep Narwal broke the pair by joining U Mumba side in auction while Girish Ernak stayed.

Dharmaraj Cheralathan – Fazel Atrachali

A veteran right corner Dharmaraj Cheralathan and left corner Fazel Atrachali held Pirates’ corners for season 4. Patna Pirates clinched PKL title in season 4 comfortably and the pair played pivotal role in triumph. Iranian gladiator Fazel Atrachali topped the tackle points chart that season with 52 tackle points in 16 matches. While ace Dharmaraj Cheralathan contributed 39 points in pair’s total count of 91 tackle points. Both corner defenders left Patna Pirates after the title winning season.

Pair reunited in U Mumba for PKL season 6 and made 123 tackle points partnership. U Mumba had very good campaign in presence of captain Fazel Atrachali and grandmaster Cheralathan anna. Cheralathan just added 40 points but the captain contributed whopping 83 tackle points in partnership. Cheralathan left U Mumba to join Haryana Steelers and played captain’s role in season 7 for side.

Ravinder Pahal – Joginder Narwal

Both corner defenders are popularly known as ‘Raka-Binda’. Ravinder Pahal recognised as one of greatest right corner of this game while left corner Joginder Narwal is veteran of PKL. The pair united for first time in Pro Kabaddi in Puneri Paltan for season 4. Ravinder Pahal scored 37 and Joginder Narwal contributed 34 tackle points. Puneri Paltan had successful campaign that season finishing at 3rd place.

Pair reunited in Dabang Delhi as Delhi qualified in playoffs for the time. Delhi had another good campaign under both sergeants and played finals of season 7. Dabang Delhi lost finals against Bengal Warriors but captain Raka and yobo Binda proved their point.

Mohit Chhillar – Surender Nada

PKL journey of the greatest corner defenders duo started from the very first day in U Mumba. Duo dominated the whole season by scoring 85 tackle points but fell short in finals. Surender Nada scored 51 tackle points which was joint highest in league along with Manjeet Chhillar. Duo finally won Pro Kabaddi League title under Anup Kumar in season 2. Suffered with lot of ups and downs with U Mumba in season 3 and finished as runners up again.

Bengaluru Bulls acquired the services of the pair for season 4 and made Mohit Chhillar the captain who was the most expensive player in the auctions. Duo moved to Haryana Steelers in season 5 where Nada got captain’s armband. Haryana Steelers had successful debut season with pair getting knocked by champions Patna Pirates. Haryana retained captain Surender Nada and released Mohit Chhillar for season 6 and broke the duo.

Mohit Chhillar played for Jaipur Pink Panthers and Tamil Thalaivas later. Surender Nada ruled out most of the time due to injury and just played 1 match since then. Legendary pair played 5 seasons together scoring whopping 427 tackles points with one PKL title and two runner up medals. Left corner Surender Nada contributed 218 while Mohit Chhillar contributed 209 tackle points. These extraordinary stats and achievements give complete justification to the PKL’s most successful and decorated pair of corner defenders.
