IPL 2020: Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs


Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs in the match number 7 of the Indian Premier League which was played in the Dubai International Stadium last night. Some excellent level of performances from Prithvi Shaw and Rabada provided a win to the Delhi Capitals. Prithvi Shaw became the top scorer of the game by scoring 64 runs in 43 balls with a strike rate of 148.84 giving an amazing teenage performance.

CSK won the toss and decided to bowl first

Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw opened up for Delhi Capitals. They gave a slow start scoring runs in the form of singles and doubles and where a gap was available; Prithvi Shaw tried to go for a boundary. They started the match with a good partnership preventing the fall of wicket.

Prithvi Shaw completed his half-century with a single in the 10th over of the inning where the overall score of Delhi Capitals was 88-0 after 10 overs.

After a long wait, Chennai got a breakthrough when Piyush Chawla got the 1st wicket by dismissing Dhawan with an LBW. Dhawan was dismissed for 35 and Rishabh Pant was next up. Piyush Chawla got another wicket in the 13th over in the form of Shaw. He tried to play the shot by going ahead but was beautifully stumped by Dhoni at the back. Shaw was dismissed after scoring 64 runs and DC’s score was now 105/2 in 13 overs. Iyer and Pant started to build a partnership and took the score to 161 runs for DC. Sam Curran made a breakthrough by taking the wicket of Shreyas Iyer which was brilliantly caught by Dhoni.

DC managed to set a target of 176 at the end with 14 runs scored from the final over of Hazlewood.

Start of the 2nd innings

Shane Watson and Murali Vijay started the innings with a very slow start by scoring just 2 runs in the 1st over. DC finally got a breakthrough in the 5th over where Axar Patel strikes a wicket of Shane Watson and CSK lost an early wicket with an overall score of just 26-1 in 5 overs. CSK lost another wicket in the 6th over where Murali Vijay was dismissed by Nortje with the overall score 32/2 in 6 overs.

Du Plessis and Kedar Jadhav tried to drive the score line up for playing their part and taking the score to 101 in 16 overs.

Du Plessis was finally out for 43 runs where Rabada took an amazing wicket in the 18th over.  It was too late for CSK as 49 runs were required in 6 balls now.

Delhi Capitals won the game by 44 runs and it was a great win for the Shreyas Iyer’s side as they didn’t allow Chennai Super Kings to explode.

Today’s match will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at 7:30 PM IST.
