Indian Super League (ISL) Weekly Transfer Round-up

Steady week in the ISL transfer world and six clubs actively involved in the acquisitions of players. Here are some of the significant moves that transpired between the ISL clubs ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Chennaiyin FC

Enes Sipović

Chennaiyin FC announced the signing of Bosnia Herzegovina central defender Enes Sipović. The 30-year-old defender arrived on free transfer for one-year contract. Sipović has experience of representing Bosnia Herzegovina U21 side and played for Qatari top division club Umm Salal last season. He played professional football in several countries like Romania, Belgium, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Sipović becomes first Bosnian to play in ISL and will join Machans central defense alongside Eli Sabia.

Hyderabad FC

Fran Sandaza

Francisco ‘Fran’ Sandaza joins Hyderabad FC ahead of ISL 2020-21 season. The 35-year-old Spanish forward arrived Hyderabad on a one year contract. Fran played for the Spanish Segunda division side Alcorcón in 2019-20 season. The veteran has vast experience of playing football in Spain, England, Scotland, Qatar, Japan and China. He also represented some major clubs like Brighton & Hove Albion, Girona, Rangers and FC Tokyo.

Fran Sandaza joined Hyderabad’s side as the sixth foreign signing of the season.

Kerala Blasters FC

Vicente Gómez

Kerala Blasters acquired the service of 32-year-old spanish midfielder Vicente Gómez. He plays as defensive midfielder and joined club from Spanish side Deportivo de La Coruña on 3 year contract. Gómez made 223 appearances for his home club Las Palmas. He captained Las Palmas side against giants like Barcelona and Real Madrid, also widely regarded club legend. Manjappadas are delighted with the major signing.

FC Goa

James Donachie, Mohammad Ali

FC Goa opened their foreign cards slowly week by week. And announced the arrival of Australian centre-back James Donachie last week. The 27-year-old central defender joined Gaurs on a season long loan deal from Australian A-League side Newcastle Jets. Donachie has won A-League with Brisbane Roar two times (2011-12, 2013-14) and one time with Melbourne Victory in 2017-18. Tall and rock defender will key role in Gaur’s AFC Champions League campaign.

The 28-year-old local boy Mohammad Ali is FC Goa from three years and extended his stay for another two years. Defender was picked by FC Goa in 2017 Players draft and made 24 appearances for club in three seasons.

ATK Mohun Bagan

Sandesh Jhingan, Bradden Inman

ATK Mohun Bagan set the first in transfer market after two thumping signings. ATKMB announced the arrival of Australian-born Scottish midfielder Bradden Inman on last Monday. The 28-year-old midfielder joined Kolkata based club on one year contract from Brisbane Roar. He was youth product of Premier League side Newcastle United and also represented Rochdale before moving Australia. Inman will add flair in ATKMB midfield alongside David Williams.

Then ATKMB announced the most awaited signing of Sandesh Jhingan on Saturday. Fans were waiting for this signing from long time and finally the 27-year-old central defender joins club on five year contract. Jhingan was contracted with Kerala Blasters from six years and also won the Emerging player Award and two runners up medals there. Former Kerala Blasters captain and current unofficial third national team captain missed whole 2019-20 season due to ACL injury. ATK Mohun Bagan fans are super happy for the arrival of stalwart, that makes Sandesh Jhingan our signing of the week.

NorthEast United FC

Luis Machado, Khassa Camara, Federico Gallego

NorthEast United acted very capitative about their foreign signings and finally exploded transfer market last week. NorthEast United was yet to make an announcement of their decision on any foreigner before last week. Club announced on Tuesday that they retained popular and familiar face Federico Gallego. The 30-year-old Uruguayan midfielder played pivotal role in club’s semifinal run in the 2018-19 season. The 2020-21 ISL season will be Gallego’s third season in NorthEast colours.

Then NorthEast went on to announce the arrivals of two foreigners in roster. The 27-year-old French-born Mauritanian defensive midfielder joined from first division relegated greek club Xanthi. And the second signing of Portuguese winger Luis Machado who arrived from Portuguese top division side Moreirense. NorthEast United fans are looking forward for announcements of foreign chosen ones of head coach Gerard Nus.
