KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal had one of the highest opening stands for KXIP

Put to bat, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal the successful opening pair for Punjab continued to dominate as the Sharjah track had nothing on offer for the bowlers. Later the runs only kept coming for Punjab as Agarwal scored his first century in the Indian Premier League by scoring 106 runs off just 50 balls which consisted of 7 sixes and 10 boundaries, the skipper on the other side posted 69 runs in 54 balls and they had an opening stand of 183 runs between them.

Nicolas Pooran joins the party towards the end and helps KXIP post 223 runs on the board

Both the openers got their side close to 200 runs and towards the end. Nicolas Pooran who was struggling to get some bat on ball in the previous games finally manages to come on to the scenes for his side and played a magnificent cameo as we reached closer to the halfway stage. He scored a quickfire 25 runs in just 8 balls.

Pooran continued to do well on the field where he pulls off one of the finest saves in this edition of IPL. He even earned a standing ovation from his fielding coach Jonty Rhodes for the same.

Sanju Samson being consistent as he plays another brilliant inning and was a major run-scorer for RR

Jos Buttler who came on to play his first match of the tournament after completing the quarantine period could not get going as he departed early. Sanju Samson who came in after his departure was in top form and he continued from where he left off the previous game and laid a strong foundation to write the history.

Samson stayed on till the 17th over and scored 85 runs in 42 runs and which consisted of 7 sixes. Steve Smith also continued from where he left off in the previous game as he scored 50 runs in 27 balls.

Rahul Tewatia the villain who turned into a hero at the end for RR

While forming a partnership with Samson initially Tewatia was struggling to get some bat on ball as he scored just 5 runs off the 12 balls he faced and was building pressure on Samson who was smashing the ball brilliantly. Once Samson departed Tewatia finally took on the onus for the Royals and started hitting those much-needed sixes.

Tewatia who was earlier being criticized for not getting the runs suddenly brought on a twist in this chase as he smoked Sheldon Cottrell for 5 sixes in the 18th over of the match and brought the equation for RR to 21 runs in 12 balls.

In the next over bowled by Mohammad Shami, Robin Uthappa was sent back into the hut as he tried to clear the boundary ropes. The next man in was Jofra Archer who hit Shami a couple of sixes and towards the end, Tewatia also pulled off another six and brought Rajasthan closer to their second victory for the season as just 2 runs were needed. But lost his wicket just at the last ball of the over.

For the last over the game, KL Rahul handed over the bowl to the leggy Murugan Ashwin who managed to pluck the wicket of the new batsman Riyaan Parag and the job for the Royals was not finished yet. But Tom Curran held his nerve to loft the ball over the covers for a boundary and helped his side create history for the tournament.
