The Royal Challengers faced the Mumbai Indians in one of the most memorable matches of the IPL at the Dubai International Stadium. The match was a high scoring one with over 400 runs being scored between the sides. A nail-biting finish culminated into a super over. RCB won the match but MI won the hearts.

#1. The First Innings:

Aaron Finch looked on song today for RCB. Finch provided an excellent acceleration to the innings in the power play. RCB were in a cruising position scoring 59 runs in the first 6 overs of their innings. Devdutt Padikkal provided the required stability.

However, Finch was dismissed by Boult and then the Indian skipper came out to bat. However, Kohli’s poor form continued and he got out cheaply scoring just 3 runs of 11 deliveries. AB De Villiers partnered Padikkal.

Padikkal, with the form that he is currently in, accelerated the innings hitting boundaries in all directions, before being dismissed by Boult. The youngster scored a half-century.  ABD was also unstoppable scoring 55 at a strike rate of over 200, hitting 4 sixes and 4 fours in the process.

Another show stopper for the innings was the Mumbai Ranji Team lad, Shivam Dube. Dube made MI’s bowling attack look terrible. He scored 27 runs off just 10 balls, hitting at a strike rate of 270. RCB posted a formidable total of 202 on the scoreboard against MI.

#2. The Second Innings:

Rohit Sharma and De Kock opened the innings with a mammoth total to chase. However, Mumbai were off to a good start, with 14 runs off the first 9 deliveries However, they soon lost the wicket of Sharma and the new entrant Suryakumar Yadav also got out for a duck. Suddenly Mumbai’s innings started to look in shambles. Ishan Kishan came out to partner De Kock, but the partnership did not last long.

De Kock also got out early. It was Hardik Panda’s turn then. Pandya and Kishan tried to stabilize the innings. They developed a partnership of 39 runs before Pandya got out trying to hit a six. At that point, MI looked to be in a pathetic position.

The experienced Keiron Pollard came to the middle. The required rate was mounting. Pollard took quite a few deliveries to set. MI had a required rate of about 18 runs an over at the end of 15 overs. It seemed to be an impossible task and MI seemed to have given up. But there was a lot of drama left in store.

Pollard and Kishan started going all guns blazing. Kishan hit 9 sixes scoring an amazing 50. Keiron Pollard was raining sixes as well. Mumbai required just 5 runs of the last 2 balls when Kishan was caught on the boundary line. He got out at the 99-run mark, which was a bit unfortunate. With Pollard on strike, MI needed 5 of the last delivery. Pollard managed to score a four and the match was into the super over .

#3. The Super Over:

Navdeep Saini was chosen to ball the super over for RCB. Pollard and Hardik Pandya were sent to bat for MI. Udana bowled excellently and MI were able to score just 7 runs off the over. RCB needed only 8 to win. Kohli and ABD came out to bat for RCB. Bumrah bowled very well giving just 7 runs of the first 5 deliveries. RCB needed just 1 of the last ball. Kohli hit Bumrah for a four to seal the deal.

The match had a nail-biting finish. It was anyone’s game until the last moment. However both the teams have a lot to improve in the bowling departments. Let’s see how they implement those improvements in the upcoming games. That’s all folks!
