IPL 2020 M14: Chennai Super Kings Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – Preview

Chennai Super Kings will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Dubai International Stadium in the match number 14th of the Indian Premier League season 2020. This thrilling encounter is between the two bottom teams of the points table.

Dhoni’s yellow army started their IPL 2020 season with a win. But they had to face two back to back losses. Chennai lost their matches against Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. While the Orange army started poorly, they lost both the opening matches of this tournament. But they won against Delhi Capitals, which was their first win of this season.

The Superb Kings have a good record against the Sunrises. Despite being last on the points table, Dhoni and his men can take inspiration from the history to win their second match.

So far, both the teams have met 12 times in this cash-rich league tournament. From that, Dhoni’s CSK has won nine games, and Warner’s orange army has won just three matches. Now Dhoni should improve more on this record and get back into the winning ways in this IPL 2020 season.

Chennai has many concerns in their batting and bowling department, which has hurt them badly in this season. The Super kings chased the target down in their first match against Mumbai Indians. But their idea to bowl first hasn’t worked for them.

If CSK wins the toss, they should bat first and set up a good total on the board. In Dubai International Stadium, the teams who have opted to bowl first have lost. The teams have not been successful while chasing in Dubai, and Chennai hasn’t done well in their last two matches.

The yellow army should rethink their batting order. Instead of Murali Vijay, CSK should open the innings with Faf and Watson in this match. In the last two seasons, Faf and Watto are the most successful opening pair for CSK.

Faf has been in good form. He has been batting well at number three position in place of Suresh Raina. But the form of Watson, Vijay, Dhoni, and Jadhav will worry CSK ahead of this match. Now that Rayudu has been fit, he can come in place of Jadhav.

Kedar Jadhav hasn’t been performing well for Chennai. He should be replaced with Amati Rayudu for this match against Hyderabad. Ambati played well against Mumbai Indians in that challenging run chase. But he missed the two games which Chennai lost.

There has been a lot of debate regarding where should MS Dhoni bat. We all know that Mahi’s ideal batting position is number 5 position. In his heydays, Thalai used to bat at six and finish the matches for India and Chennai. But now the finishing skills of Dhoni has been vanishing. He hasn’t been comfortable hitting sixes at will as he used to do earlier.

That’s why Dhoni’s ideal batting position is number four. At this position, Dhoni can take a little bit of time at the start, and then he can hammer the ball out of the park.

Chennai should look for a finisher in this season. Jadeja can be the perfect one to take up that role.

Ravindra Jadeja can bat lower down the order. He has the batting abilities which take Chennai to a super win. But still, he doesn’t have the experience of finishing the innings. If the responsibility of finishing the innings is given to Jaddu, it will benefit India more than anything else.

There might be a possibility of DJ Bravo coming into the side. Bravo was out of the three matches which Super Kings played. The CEO of Super Kings said that Bravo is available for the selection. Chennai needs his all-round skill to tackle this situation.

In the absence of Bravo, Sam Curran did a fantastic job as the bowler. He has been the most economical pace bowler for the yellow army so far. But there will a question regarding the selection once Bravo is in the squad. Will Chennai add both Bravo and Curran in their playing XI?

Adding both the overseas all-rounders means Josh Hazlewood will sit out after playing just one game. Hazlewood bowled decently in the game against the Capitals. But adding Bravo and Sam will also add depth in the batting of CSK, and it also can solve the bowling woes.

Probable Playing XI of Chennai Super Kings –  Faf Du Plessis, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Ruturaj Gaikwad, MS Dhoni, DJ Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Deepak Chachar, Shardul Thakur, and Piyush Chawla.

After losing the first two matches of the tournament, Sunrisers finally opened their winning account against Delhi Capitals. Their batting and bowling looked decent in that game. The inclusion of their former skipper Kane Williamson proved right in the end.

In that last game, Hyderabad also had a good opening stand. Warner and Bairstow put up a great show. But still, Warner hasn’t looked dangerous as he was in the previous seasons. He played a good knock against Delhi Capitals, which should make him going in this tournament.

Bairstow too played well. But against a team like Chennai Super Kings, Hyderabad should lay a solid foundation. Delhi Capitals won the match against Super kings because the openers had shared a good partnership, which had put Chennai under pressure.

If Hyderabad does a similar thing on Friday, then the orange army will go past the yellow brigade. The middle-order Hyderabad has become strong due to the experience and calmness brought by Williamson. They also have Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, and Adul Samad to bat around Kane in the middle order.

SRH depends a lot on Bhuvi and Rashid Khan. These two players are Hyderabad’s pillars, and they will want a good performance from Khaleel Ahmed, Abhishek Sharma, and T Natarajan. These bowlers bowled well against Delhi, and Sunrisers will want them to continue their good form against Super Kings.

Probable Playing XI of Sunrisers Hyderabad – David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Priyam Garg, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan.

The match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad will be telecasted on the Star Sports Networks, and the live streaming will be available on the HOTSTAR mobile applications. This match will start at 7.30PM, on 2nd October, according to the Indian Standard Time, 2 PM GMT AND 6 PM Local Time.
