IPL 2020| Match 13- KXIP vs MI – Preview

IPL 2020’s match number 13 gets underway between the two sides, KXIP and MI, who should have won their last game. This thrilling encounter is between India’s two finest white-ball openers. It will be Rohit Vs Rahul, as Kings XI Punjab will take on Mumbai Indians at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi tomorrow.

The match between KXIP and MI will be a cracker of a contest. Both the teams have lost two games, so this is a must-win encounter for both the teams.

These two teams also had had super over heartbreak. KXIP lost in super over against Delhi Capitals in the opening match of IPL 2020. While MI came close of winning against Royal Challengers Bangalore, but they also couldn’t survive the super over scare against RCB.

There are a lot of similarities in this team. But the stats show that MI has the upper hand against KXIP. These two teams have met 24 times in this cash-rich league tournament so far, and Mumbai Indians have won 13 encounters while KXIP has clinched 11 wins against the defending champions of this season.

The batting was brilliantly done by Kings XI Punjab in the two back to back matches. It was KL Rahul’s show against Royal Challengers Bangalore which helped them to open their account in the tournament.

In the match against Rajasthan Royals, Mayank Agarwal stood like a ‘Wall’ in front of Steve Smith and co. Agarwal smashed 106 runs in that game, and he shared an opening partnership of 183 runs with Skipper KL Rahul.

But the likes of Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell should step up for the game against MI. The middle-order looks weak if these two overseas players don’t fire for them. Maxwell was the highest run-scorer for KXIP at the United Arab Emirates in 2014. But now, KXIP will need runs from this Aussie player.

Pooran has been picked over Chris Gayle. So this inspiration is enough for Pooran to perform well from the next matches.

Chris Gayle, the Universal Boss, has not got any opportunities in this season. Will KXIP play the whole season without Gayle? That needs to be seen. But including Gayle as an opener instead of Pooran will make KXIP batting dangerous. Gayle will be an ideal player to clear the long boundaries in Abu Dhabi.

KXIP has concerns about their bowling. They did well against RCB. But they could not repeat their same performance against Rajasthan Royals. Steve Smith, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewatia took RR to a record run chase win over KXIP in that last game.

KXIP will want Shami, Cottrell, Neesham, Bhisnoi and Ashwin to come good against a powerful batting XI of Mumbai Indians.

KXIP has an option of playing Ishan Porel and Mujeeb Ur Rahaman in place of Cottrell and Ravi Bishnoi.

Probable Playing XI of Kings XI Punjab – KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Glenn Maxwell, Sarfraz Khan, James Neesham, Mohd Shami, Mujeeb Ur Rahaman, Ishan Porel, and Murugan Ashwin.

The defending champions lost their opening game against Chennai Super Kings, and they bounced back nicely against Kolkata Knight Riders. But in their last match which was against RCB, their bowlers leaked runs against De Villers, Finch and Paddikal.

MI will be concerned about their bowling ahead of their next match against KXIP. Bumrah, Boult and Pattinson leaked runs, and the spinners too couldn’t grip the game in their favour. The bowling form of Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chachar is a matter of concern in the game as well for MI.

In this season, MI also don’t have the luxury of Hardik Pandya as an all-rounder. Hardik’s four overs have been crucial for MI over the years. But in this season, Hardik hasn’t bowled at all. After his surgery, the MI team has been careful about Hardik’s toll.

This is not a good sign for MI and the Indian Team. India too needs Hardik as an all-rounder. In the upcoming series and tours. Hardik Pandya will be vital for the Indian team. A full fit Hardik Pandya will do more damage to the opposition.

MI’s top order was blown away by the RCB bowlers. Rohit, De Kock, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya were out cheaply in the run chase of 202 runs. These batters should make it up for their poor performance in the next game.

But it was an innings of a lifetime which was played by young Ishan Kishen. Even though he couldn’t finish the game for MI, but his partnership with Kieron Pollard, which was a match-turning one. Kishan was out on the last ball when just one run was required from the last ball. Ishan missed his well deserved century by one run as well.

MI will want a similar effort from Kishan and Pollard in the game against KXIP. Pollard’s bat was silent until the last match. But now that he is in form, MI will breathe a sigh of relief. Pollard’s bowling also is the one which helped in the game against KKR.

Skipper Sharma should use all the four overs from Pollard because he can strangle the opposition with the ball as well.

Probable Playing XI of Mumbai Indians – Rohit Sharma, Quinton De Kock, Ishan Kishen Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Keron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, James Pattinson, Rahul Chachar, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.

The 13th match of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League will have a live telecast on Star Sports Network and live streaming will also be available on Hotstar mobile application.

The match timings are – 7.30 PM IST, 2.00 PM GMT and 6.00 PM Local.
