Rajasthan Royals lost their first game of the IPL 2020 season. It was a clinical performance by the Kolkata Knight Riders, which helped them to win this match by 37 runs. Shubman Gill, Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, and Shivam Mavi were the stars for KKR in this win.

KKR batted first in the encounter after Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first. KKR had a decent start to their innings; Narine and Gill added 36 runs in 4.5 over. But Narine couldn’t carry the innings along. He was the first one to go for just 15 runs.

Nitish Rana showed a lot of promise. The two young guns ensured that KKR would reach a score of 50 without any further hiccups. Rana played some stylish shots, and Gill continued from where he left from the last match.

KKR was racing away towards a big score. After the halfway stage, they were well placed at 82 runs with just one wicket down. Rana and Gill should have carried the good work. But Rana fell for 22 runs from 17 balls.

After the wicket of Nitish Rana, KKR also lost the wickets of Shubham Gill and skipper Dinesh Karthik in quick succession. Gill was dismissed for 47 runs. But Karthik continued his poor form. KKR reached the hundred run mark, but they also lost their skipper for just one run.

The lower middle order of KKR gave many handy contributions. Andre Russell showed his mighty power. He smashed three sixes and scored 24 of just 13 deliveries. The great Russ wanted some more of those shots. But it was Ankit Rajpoot who ended this onslaught from Russell.

KKR was in a tricky position after Russell’s dismissal. But the skipper of England, Eoin Morgan, batted till the end and took his team through to a defendable total. Morgan got the support of the Aussie quick Pat Cummins, which helped KKR to reach near the 150 run mark.

Although Pat Cummins contributed with just 12 runs, still, those runs were vital for KKR. Due to the partnership between Cummins and Morgan, KKR reached close to the 150 run mark, which didn’t look possible at one stage.

After Cummins got out for 12 runs, it was Eoin Morgan who fought a battle for KKR. Morgan started slowly. But when he gained the momentum, Morgan didn’t look back. Due to the brilliant efforts from Eoin Morgan, KKR had put a fighting score of 174 runs.

Jofra Archer started well for RR. He bowled fearsome deliveries in his first over. But Archer couldn’t end well as Morgan’s 34-run unbeaten knock had spoiled his good figures. The RR bowlers picked up some vital wickets in the middle order, but still, KKR managed to put up a decent score on the board.

Archer picked up two wickets along with Rajpoot, Unadkat, Tom Curran, and Rahul Tewatia picked up one wicket each to their names.

Poor start with the bat for RR

The team that chased down the highest total in the Indian Premier League’s history failed to reach this target. RR had chased down a target of 226 runs on Sunday at Sharjah, where they are still unbeaten.

But once they arrived at Dubai, their approach towards this run chase changed, which was why RR lost this encounter. Steve Smith and co couldn’t clear the long ropes of Dubai like they cleared Sharjah’s smaller boundaries.

The RR batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Only Tom Curran, Jos Buttler, and Rahul Tewatia scored in double digits. But the rest of the RR batsmen fell cheaply, and their score was in single-digit. This time there were no heroics in RR’s innings.

Rajasthan Royals reached a score of 137 runs in reply to KKR’s 174 runs. They batted the whole 20 overs mainly because of a lone fight, which Tom Curran put up. The England all-rounder was the top scorer for RR in this match. He was unbeaten on 54 runs. It was good to see that Indian bowlers with most wickets in this match. Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarthy, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti picked up two wickets each from the KKR side. With Narine, Cummins, and Kuldeep Yadav picked up one wicket each to their names.

Kolkata Knight Riders won their second game on the trot and Shivam Mavi was the man of the match-winner for his excellent bowling figures.
