CSK – Chennai Super Kings have ended their three-match losing streak in style. The men in yellow don’t ball that well. But the openers made sure that Chennai would not go down in this encounter against KXIP – Kings XI Punjab in Dubai.

The first win for the Chennai Super Kings came after a while. They started their IPL 2020 season with a win against Mumbai Indians. In that match Chennai chased down 163 runs and then it was three back to back losses while chasing for them. But here, in this match against Kings XI, the openers did more than a perfect job.

Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson shared an unbeaten opening partnership of 181 runs which helped them to chase down the score of 179 runs with ease. Both, Faf and Watto slammed their half-centuries and guided Super Kings towards a ten-wicket victory.

Punjab started well after they won the toss and elected to bat first in this encounter. The openers shared an excellent partnership of 61 runs which came in just 8.1 overs. Rahul and Mayank were in good form before this game, and they continued from where they left from the previous match.

Piyush Chawla was the one who ended their opening stand when he picked up the wicket of Mayank Agarwal for 26 runs. But KXIP continued their onslaught even after Agarwal was out. Mandeep batted at number three with KL Rahul. Both the batters went at brisk pace.

Mandeep Singh scored a quick 16 ball 27 runs which helped the Kings  XI Punjab not to lose the momentum in the game. But they got another blow before they reached the hundred run mark. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Mandeep after his little cameo.

Then it was Pooran and Rahul who tried to take Punjab to a defendable score. They shared a stand of 58 runs, and in the process Skipper KL Rahul also reached his half-century. This partnership took a toll on CSK’s bowlers.

Chennai needed a breakthrough, and Shardul Thakur brought two wickets in one over which allowed CSK to make a tiny comeback. Thakur picked up the wickets of Pooran and Rahul in back to back balls.

Pooran also played a good cameo, scoring 33 runs from just 17 deliveries and Rahul continued to be in-form of his life. He smashed another fifty, and he was dismissed for 63 runs in this match.

The later innings of Punjab lost the momentum. The scored which seemed to reach the 200 run mark was no where near. Kings XI Punjab scored 178 runs in their 20 overs with Maxwell was unbeaten on 11 runs, and Sarfaraz was not out on 14 runs.

Even after the great start and some thrashing in between, the Chennai bowlers didn’t lose hope. They bowled well, and with timely dismissals, Chennai Super Kings were successful in restricting Punjab under the score of 200 runs.

Shardul Thakur picked up two wickets in one over, which brought the momentum back for the men in yellow. With him, Ravindra Jadeja and Piyush Chawla were the other bowlers who picked up one wicket each to their names.

The run chase didn’t look easy for the Super Kings, considering the poor form which their batsmen were. Chennai is the only team which hasn’t batted first in this IPL season so far. They have played five matches, and they have chased in all five by winning just one game before this match.

But here, the openers had put everything aside. They showed again that form is temporary and class is permeant. They openers single-handedly put Chennai towards the victory margin. Faf and Watson shared an unbeaten partnership of 181 runs which took them to victory by ten wickets in the match.

Watson was out of form from the previous few games. He started again slowly in this innings. But once he found his lost touch, Watto played some of his trademark shots which kept him going. The credit should be given to CSK management as well for supporting Watson.

It is always easy to have faith when things go well. But it is not easy to show that same faith when things don’t turn according to the plans. CSK has a great trust in the great Aussie all-rounder which paid off again in this match. Watto was unbeaten on 87 runs.

Faf Du Plessis has been the only batter in the top order which has been going great in the IPL season for the three-time champions. Apart from the last game, Faf is the highest scorer for Super Kings, and he is also the second-highest run-getter for the yellow army in this season.

KL Rahul holds the orange cap at the moment with 302 runs, and Faf Du Plessis is at second place with 282 runs. Faf again played another great knock of unbeaten 87 runs which allowed CSK to end their losing streak in style.

The Kings bowlers kept searching for wickets, but it never came for them. For the first time, the likes of Cottrell and Shami were wicketless in the powerplay overs. Kings XI have a problem in bowling the death overs, but here their concerns have increased as they failed to pick up a single wicket in the first six overs.

The next match will be played today, 5th October 2020 between Royals Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals in Dubai. This thrilling match starts at 7.30 PM, according to the Indian Standard Time.
