Ollie Watkins: The Journey of a Rising Talent


What makes Ollie Watkins so special? That’s easy, just goals. It is his natural beauty to score goals whenever he gets an opportunity. His talent and hard work is the reason he was able to make a spot for himself in the Premier League.

Last season he was busy scoring goals for Brentford. He helped the team to qualify for the playoffs by scoring massive 26 goals. He has an extraordinary ability of power, pace, and natural finishing. The man just loves to run past defenders. He is also well known for scoring close-range headers.

This season Watkins made a move from Brentford to Villa entering to showcase his talent in the Premier League.

1# Background

Oliver George Arthur Watkins or Ollie Watkins was born on 30 December 1995 and grew up in Newton Abbot supporting the Torquay United as a child. He started his football career by joining the Exeter City academy at the U11 level.

2# Weston-super-Mare

In 2014, Watkins joined the Conference South club Weston-super-Mare on a 1-month loan deal. He featured regularly for the team scoring 10 goals in 25 matches.

3# Brentford

On 18th July 2017, Watkins joined Championship club Brentford on a 4-year contract for a fee reported 1.8m. He scored his 1st competitive goal in a 3-1 EFL Cup first round extra-time win over AFC Wimbledon. In 2019, Watkins signed a new 4-year contract.

Watkins scored his first hat-trick for the club in their 3-1 win against Barnsley. He made 50 appearances and scored 26 goals for the club during the 2019-20 season.

4# Aston Villa

On 9th September 2020, Watkins joined the Premier League side Aston Villa on a 5-year contract for a reported fee of 28m.Β  Watkins got reunited with the manager Dean Smith as he was the one who signed Watkins for Brentford. He started for Villa in a pre-season friendly game against Manchester United and scored a goal in the last minutes of the game providing Villa a 1-0 win. Watkins made his Aston Villa debut in the EFL cup by scoring a goal in a 3-1 away win against Burton Albion. He made his Premier League debut in a 1-0 home win against Sheffield United.

On 4th October 2020, Watkins scored his 1st Premier League hat-trick in a 7-2 home victory over Liverpool. It was Liverpool’s heaviest defeat in 57 years and the first time in Premier League history that a reigning champion had conceded 7 goals in a single game.
