Another great contest between the bat and ball is on the way in the Indian Premier League season 2020 as Delhi Capitals take on Rajasthan Royals. None of the matches played in the IPL 2020 season can’t be taken lightly by any teams and their franchises with the coaching staff.

Match number 23 also promises to be a thriller. This encounter is between the Double R’s (RR) – Rajasthan Royals and DC – Delhi Capitals on Friday, 9th October 2020, at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals have played at Sharjah, and both of them have won their games at that venue. Rajasthan defeated Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. While Delhi Capitals played only one match at this venue, they won that close encounter with Kolkata Knight Riders.

But before coming to this encounter, Rajasthan has lost three matches in a row after starting the tournament so well, and those three losses haven’t come at Sharjah. Now they will be relieved to be back at their fortress venue.

The Delhi Capitals are at the second spot on the IPL points table. They have played five matches so far, and they have won four of them. Their only loss came against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Both the teams have powerful batsmen in their playing XI. But Delhi’s bowling attack is superior to the Royals. Their main spearhead is Jofra Archer, and they rely on him as they are over-dependent on Buttler, Smith, and Samson in the batting department.

STATS

According to the stats, Rajasthan has fared better in their previous encounters against Delhi Capitals. In 20 matches played between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan has won eleven matches, and Delhi has won just nine games so far.

Rajasthan will be back to their most favourite venue. The venue where their Royal record of winning is still intact. Steve Smith and Rajasthan will aim to get back in their winning ways once again after facing three back to back losses in a row.

Rajasthan is a dangerous side overall, but when they play at Sharjah, they will be more dangerous because their top three batsmen relish batting at Sharjah and their bowlers also know what to do bowl in this sort of flat wicket which at this famous venue.

Steve Smith will be coming back to the opening position with Jose Buttler, and Sanju Samson will bat three. This is the same batting order which won them the two games at Sharjah. But the middle order batting is a concern for the Double R’s.

Rajasthan should drop Yashasvi Jaiswal and get a middle-order player in their playing XI. RR’s middle-order batting hasn’t had that power, which could take them through. Although the batsmen will relish batting on a flat wicket and smaller boundaries, they still need to hold the one end up for Rajasthan.

Robin Uthappa is an experienced player. But his experience is in the top order. Rajasthan can promote Uthappa as an opening batsman, and Steve Smith can bat at number three, where he usually bats for Australia.

Rahul Tewatia is also a good batter. He showed his pure class in the match against Kings XI Punjab, where he scored 53 runs, and that helped the double R’s chase down the highest total of IPL history.

Tewatia will be more dangerous at a venue like Sharjah. They have Riyan Parag who can take up the finishing role with Jofra Archer, who can smoke the ball out of the Sharjah stadium. There are many power hitters in the playing eleven of Rajasthan, which makes them a dangerous side.

If Steve Smith comes to bat at number 3, their middle-order woes will also be solved. Smith can anchor the innings well just as he did against CSK. Then they have more big hitters like Samson to take the RR’s innings through nicely.

The bowlers are the ones who will be more worried because they will play on a flat wicket and a smaller venue like Sharjah. The bowlers can’t miss their length by an inch. If they do so, they will be dispatched towards the boundary line.

Jofra Archer has been in decent form. But in the last game, he wasn’t given the new ball by Smith. Archer is a new specialist. He can take a couple of wickets, which will pressure players like Risbah Pant, Marcus Stoinis, and Shimron Hetmyer.

Archer is the only bowler in the Rajasthan XI who can be lethal for the in-form top order of Delhi Capitals. Karthik Tyagi is another pacer who has impressed everyone with his pace and accuracy. But instead of Tom Curran, Andrew Tye will be a better option for Rajasthan Royals.

The Royals will also have to add Mayank Markande in their line up. He can come to the place of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Markande’s will be the third spinning option for the double R’s. He will be more lethal than Shreyas Gopal.

The Predicted Playing XI of Rajasthan Royals – Jos Buttler, Robin Uthappa, Steven Smith, Sanju Samson, Mahipal Lomror, Rahul Tewatia, Jofra Archer, Tom Curran/Andrew Tye, Shreyas Gopal/Mayank Markande, Ankit Rajpoot, Kartik Tyagi.

DC – Delhi Capitals – Team’s Preview

Delhi has no problems what so ever. They are the most balanced team in this competition, and that’s why they are on the second position on the points table. Delhi’s top order are in good form, and the middle order is led by their skipper Shreyas Iyer, who also is in decent touch.

Delhi Capitals team is so well balanced that, they are the only side who can play a match with all Indian players in their playing XI. Despite no Amit Mishra in their squad, their spin attack is better than the Rajasthan Royals.

In the absence of Mishra Ji, Axar Patel has bowled well. He also adds depth to the batting of DC. The Capitals also have the experience of Ravichandran Ashwin in their squad, whose captaincy experience can be used by Shreyas Iyer.

As a meme, in this match, we may see a mini-battle between Buttler and Ashwin. The former player and skipper of Kings XI Punjab had mankaded Buttler in the IPL 2019 season encounter. So there might be anticipation whether Ashwin will repeat that in this match as well.

Delhi Capitals also has a strong fast bowling line up. Rabada and Nortje, the two South African pace bowlers, have been good for them. The only concern for them is the form of Shimron Hetmyer. But they can replace him with Keemo Paul, the fast-bowling all-rounder from The Windies.

The Probable Predicted Playing XI of Delhi Capitals – Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shimron Hetmyer/Keemo Paul, Marcus Stoinis, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje.

This match will be brought live at 7.30 PM IST on Friday, 9th October 2020. Star Sports Networks will telecast this match, and HOTSTAR will be the mobile application for live streaming.
