After many losses, Chennai Super Kings has two vital points in their kitty. This win of CSK against SRH has brought a new hope in the Yellow Army that they can still make it to the playoff stages of the IPL 2020 season.

After ten matches, Chennai batted first in this encounter. This was the first instance where Mahi won the toss and opted to bat first. CSK opened this game with Sam Curran, and Faf Du Plessis with Shane Watto batted at number three position.

Faf was out on the first-ball, while Sam Curran batted decently as the opener. Curran scored 22 runs of one over of Khaleel and set the right momentum in the game for the men in yellow team.

But it was Sandeep Sharma who clean bowled Sam Curran. The English all-rounder completely misjudged the length which was bowled by Sandeep Sharma and Curran managed to score just 31 runs after a decent start to his innings.

After the fall of two quick wickets, it was Watto and Rayudu who batted well and took the CSK’s innings along without losing any further wickets. They shared a much-needed partnership which steadied things for Chennai.

Their 81 run stand kept things going for the Super Kings. But they needed runs at a brisk pace which Watson and Rayudu couldn’t manage that well. Sunrisers Hyderabad got the breakthrough as these two batsmen were out in two successive overs.

Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Ambati Rayudu for 41 runs, and Shane Watson was out to T Natarajan for 42 runs. Then came Mahi and Jaddu took the CSK’s total towards the 150 run mark. Mahi tried to slog the SRH bowlers and he batted well for 13 ball with 21 runs. But he was out before providing the finishing kick to the innings.

Chennai Super Kings also lost DJ Bravo for no score. It was Ravindra Jadeja who helped Chennai to post a formidable total after their 20 overs were completed. Jaddu smashed unbeaten 25 runs from just ten deliveries. He hit three sixes and one four which helped the Super Kings to post a fighting score of 167 runs.

Khaleel Ahmed and T Natarajan were the most expensive bowlers for SRH. They had an economy rate of more than ten runs per over. But still, they ended up picking two wickets each while Sandeep Sharma had the most economical figures. He gave just 19 runs from his four overs and picked up two wickets as well.

The chase of 168 runs were not the toughest one for the Orange Army. They needed a good opening partnership from Warner and Bairstow to get close to this score.

Sam Curran also opened the bowling for CSK and took the big wicket of Warner in the third over as the Aussie opener was out for just nine runs.

In the next over, SRH got another blow because of Bravo’s magical fielding stint. Manish Pandey went to take a single but couldn’t manage to ground his bat as the West Indian crashed the stumps with the direct hit and Pandey was run out for just one run.

Kane Williamson was the only batsman who looked comfortable while facing the CSK spinners as SRH lost wickets in a heap. The set batsmen like Bairstow also couldn’t manage to bat long as Williamson did. Johnny was out for 23 runs.

The inexperienced batting line up of Sunrisers Hyderabad fell quick. The players like Priyam Garg, Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan didn’t provide the support to the Kiwi skipper who batted so beautifully at the other end.

If Kane Willaimson had the support of the top and middle-order order batsmen, then the result would have been different for the Orange Army. The Kiwi and the former SRH captain scored a vital half-century in the context of the game. But he too was out after that. Williamson departed for well made 57 runs.

After Williamson’s fall, the bowlers had a tough ask to chase down this total. In the end, SRH managed to score just 147 runs on the board with the loss of nine wickets.

CSK’s bowlers were on song. It was difficult to bat on this wicket, but the spinners, in particular, made it even more tougher for the Orange Army. Karn Sharma and DJ Bravo picked up two wickets to their names while Jadeja, Sam Curran and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each to their names.

CSK won this match by 20 runs, and now they are tied with Rajasthan Royals and SRH on six points. Ravindra Jadeja won the man of the match award for his late finish and excellent bowling.

The next match will be played today between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals at Dubai International Stadium at 7.30 PM IST.
