The first innings:

Tripathi and Shubman Gill opened the batting for KKR. For the first three overs, KKR were scoring at run a ball rate. At the final delivery of the third over, Tripathi was caught out. Nitish Rana came out to partner Gill. But not for long. Rana got out before making an impression. Dinesh Karthik who stepped down from the KKR captaincy to concentrate on his batting was the next batsman in. However, today as well he did not perform. Meanwhile, Gill got out on 21, scoring at almost a run a ball. The newly appointed captain Eoin Morgan was next. Karthik was out bowled by a beautiful Chahar delivery. Even Andre Russell was unable to make an impression. The only partnership which gave some respite to KKR was the Cummins-Morgan partnership. Pat Cummins scored a half-century at the strike rate of 147. Morgan also contributed his bit by scoring a quick 39 in 29 balls. Before this pair came out to bat, KKR seemed to be struggling to reach even 120. This pair salvaged the KKR innings and posted a score of 148-5 onboard. MI’s bowlers were simply superb. Rahul Chahar was brilliant giving 18 runs for 2 wickets in his 4 overs. Bumrah also bowled well, but Coulter Nile failed to make an impression.

The second innings:

The usual De Kock-Hitman pair opened the innings for MI. MI looked in the mood of chasing the total quickly. De Kock looked on the song. The required run-rate never looked like a challenge, considering the firepower that MI has. Sharma and De Kock made an excellent partnership of 94 runs. Sharma got out in the 11th over. But that wasn’t a problem for MI at all. MI just needed 55 more runs off 57 deliveries at that point of time at less than a run per ball. Suryakumar Yadav got out early. Hardik Pandya later partnered De Kock. They sealed the deal for the Indians. De Kock carried his bat through the innings scoring 78 in just 44 deliveries. His terrific form continues. KKR bowlers were not successful at all in giving any kind of fight. MI won with 3 overs to spare. Varun Chakravarthy was the only promising bowler.

MI is inching closer to the Play-Offs now. With their current form, that doesn’t look like a tedious task. But KKR seems to have plenty of problems. Their performance has been extremely poor in the batting department so far. With these kinds of performances, Play-Offs look like a distant dream. Dinesh Karthik needs to step-up his game considerably. With the current form, he faces the risk of being benched. KKR will face the Orange Army next & MI will face the KL Rahul lead KXIP in their next match. Till then stay tuned!
