Virgil Van Dijk suffers a long term injury in the Merseyside derby

As per the latest update, Van Dijk will have to undergo surgery after suffering from a knee injury. As we all are aware that Liverpool faced an early blow during the Saturday game against Everton where Van Dijk got injured badly in the starting 10 minutes of the game by a reckless tackle coming from Pickford.

He was substituted at the 11th minute when Joe Gomez entered the field. We were not aware until now regarding how serious the injury might be. It was sad news for the Liverpool fans as they came to know that Van Dijk will be out for a long time.

The center-back damaged his knee ligaments and the injury is a serious one in which a further operation will be required to fix it. No specific time limit has been mentioned yet regarding how long will it take for him to recover.

Van Dijk shared a message on social media yesterday confirming his injury. He shared the message in a positive manner saying “This afternoon I met a leading consultant to start the process of planning the finer details of my rehabilitation following the incident yesterday.”

“I’m now fully focused on my recovery and will do everything I can to be back as quickly as possible. Despite the obvious disappointment, I’m a firm believer that within difficulty lies opportunity and with God’s help I’m going to make sure I can return better, fitter, and stronger than ever before.”

With such a level of positivity let’s hope that Van Dijk gets a strong recovery as soon as possible. It is a big loss for the Liverpool team as they will be lacking in the defense in the absence of Van Dijk. Gomez and Matip will have to cover the whole defensive plan in place of Van Dijk by playing for a crucial role.

Fans are even demanding that serious action should be been taken against Pickford for this rash tackle. They are requesting the upper board to look into the matter and there are chances that Pickford may get suspended for few games due to this. Let’s hope that Van Dijk makes a quick recovery and get back in the squad soon.
