The three-time IPL trophy winners, Chennai Super Kings, haven’t had an ideal tournament till now, The Yellow Army started the IPL 2020 season with a win, but CSK have struggled to maintain their winning form.

Dhoni’s army has missed the leading players like Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh in their playing eleven, but the other players also didn’t perform for them in the matches. CSK had only one thumping win in this season. Their ten-wicket victory came against Kings XI Punjab.

They had scored a good total against Delhi Capitals. But the fielding had let them down in that match. Despite scoring a challenging score of 184 runs, CSK lost that match due to three drop catches of Shikhar Dhawan who went on to score his maiden IPL hundred.

But against Rajasthan Royals, their batsmen were undone because of brilliant bowling from the double R’s. CSK was restricted for just 125 runs after their 20 overs. Jaddu was the top scorer for Chennai with 38 runs while skipper Dhoni scored run a ball 28 runs.

In reply to chase this modest score, RR lost three quicks wickets, but Steve Smith and Jos Buttler shared an unbeaten and match-winning partnership of 98 runs which ensured that men in pink win this match without any further hiccups.

Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 70 runs to his name. While the skipper of double R’s, Steve Smith played the supporting role to perfection. Smith scored unbeaten 26 runs and guided Rajasthan Royals to a seven-wicket win.

Delhi Capitals are on the top spot with 14 points, but CSK is still languishing on the bottom of the IPL points table, and after their loss to Rajasthan Royals, CSK is on the last position with just 6 points. Dhoni’s men are not still out of the playoff race and here is the way which CSK needs to do to qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2020 season –

  • Chennai Super Kings have three wins from ten matches. If they improve their run rate by winning all four of their games, then they can qualify for the playoff stages. But this time, their path is not easy. Still, their batsmen haven’t come to the party while their bowling has been decent enough to win games.
  • In IPL, all the teams should have 16 points to qualify for the playoffs stage. But for this, Chennai Super Kings will have to win their next four reaming games, and they should even maintain a perfect net run rate so that they can get all eight points which help them to reach 14 points, and but still, they have to depend on other teams to favor them.
  • Even if they get to 14 points from their 14 matches, they should still have a better net run rate. In the last season, Sunrisers Hyderabad made it to the top 4 with only 12 points, so CSK are not out of the race, but they will have to do well till the end.

CSK needs performance and luck as their remaining matches won’t be easy after they have not performed up to the standards which are set by them in the previous years. Here are the last four must-win games for men in yellow –

  • 23rd October 2020 Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians 7.30 PM IST
