IPL 2020: Gaikwad’s classy knock drives KXIP into a mire against CSK

CSK started the IPL 2020 season with a win against Mumbai Indians, and they end the tournament with a nine-wicket trump over KXIP. The Yellow Army has struck a late winning form which is why they couldn’t qualify for the playoffs stage for the first time in their IPL journey.

CSK also found their perfect playing XI in the three matches which they won, and in all the three games they won by chasing the target. CSK had a three-match winning streak to end their IPL 2020 campaign, and due to this, they have new hope for IPL 2021 season.

In their last match of IPL 2020 season, Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mayank Agarwal was back at this familiar opening position with KL Rahul in this match, and the Punjab Boys started their innings well.

They shared a steady stand of 48 runs in 5.2 overs. Both the openers got themselves a good start. But like ways, they failed to convert them into a substantial score. Agarwal was the first one to go for 26 runs. Lungi Ngidi was the man for CSK who dismissed both the KXIP openers as Skipper KL Rahul also followed his opening partner to the pavilion. Rahul is still the leading run-scorer for KXIP, and in this innings, he was dismissed for just 29 runs.

The CSK bowlers made a good back after the powerplay overs were done. They picked up regular wickets in the middle overs as the middle order of Kings XI Punjab struggled to score quick runs. Gayle had missed out on a century the other day against RR. But in this match, he managed to score just 12 runs.

Pooran’s was the man in form for KXIP in the middle order position. But he managed only two runs to his name, and Mandeep Singh was the man in-form as the opener in the previous games. But when returned to the middle order position, Mandeep scored just 14 runs to his name.

The inclusion of James Neesham also didn’t work for KXIP. The Kiwi all-rounder was replaced with the Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. But Neesham was out for just two runs after his comeback. KXIP was in all sorts of trouble after having a decent start courtesy of the bowling of CSK.

But they will take one positive from this match. Deepak Hooda was the only one who scored a half-century in this innings, and he is also the only one to score more than 30 runs in this match. KL Rahul is the second-highest scorer for KXIP after Hooda’s unbeaten fifty.

Deepak Hooda played an unbeaten knock which allowed Kings XI Punjab to post a decent score. He was unbeaten on 62 runs, which he scored from just 30 deliveries with three fours and four sixes. In the end, KXIP managed to post a score of 153 runs from their allotted 20 overs.

The bowling was good after the first six overs of powerplay. Ngidi was the one who gave early inroads for KXIP with three wickets to his name. Thakur, Jadeja and Tahir were the other bowlers who picked up one wicket each to their names.

The run chase was an easy one for the batsmen in-form. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in good form, and he continued his class with the bat. Gaikwad smashed his third back to a back half-century in the three consecutive wins for the Yellow Army.

Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis shared a stand of 82 runs which set up an easy win for the three-time IPL trophy winners. The former Proteas captain missed his well-deserved half-century by just two runs. But he ensured that CSK would end their IPL 2020 season with a win.

Chris Jordan was the only wicket-taker for Kings XI Punjab. The England bowler picked up the wicket of Faf Du Plessis for 48 runs. But CSK had two in-form men at the crease, and they comfortably cruised to the modest total set by KXIP.

Gaikwad’s three back to back half-century has indeed made a statement that he is the future of Chennai Super Kings in the coming years, and if he continues to play like this, then his maiden India call up is also not far away.

Gaikwad was unbeaten on 62 runs, and Amabti Rayudu was another batsman who was not out on 30 runs. CSK started their IPL 2020 with a win in a run chase, and they also end their season by winning a match in a run chase. CSK won this match by nine wickets.

Delhi Capitals Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore will play their match on Monday, 2nd November 2020 in Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium at 7.30 PM IST.
