IPL 2020: MI cruise their way into pole position beating a spineless DC

The team that started the IPL 2020 season with a winning habit is currently looking clueless. The team of DC was said to be the most balanced team of this competition, but now they are on a four-match losing streak after losing to MI. DC has back to back batting failures, which has made their bowling look weak. After a fantastic win over Chennai Super Kings, DC has lost the momentum completely, and now it seems highly tricky for them to get to the playoffs stage.

DC needed to win the match against MI, which would have cemented their place for the playoffs. But the defending champions are on a roll this time. In the 2014 edition, when the first half of the tournament was played in the UAE, MI had just won one game. But now, this team under Kieron Pollard has been ruthless. MI has held on to their top spot with 18 points, and their one side win over DC has indeed confirmed their qualification for the playoff spot of IPL 2020 season.

DC won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match, which was a do or die situation for the Delhi Boys. They needed their batsmen to step up and put a challenging score on the board. But this time also they failed to bat well.

It was complete dominance from the MI bowlers in this match. Trent Boult continued his trend of picking up early wickets. The Kiwi pacer bowled classy swinging delivery, which didn’t give any clue to Shikhar Dhawan. After his back to back centuries, Dhawan also bagged his second golden duck of the tournament.

Shaw was back in DC’s playing XI. But there was no show from Shaw yet again as he continued his poor form after he was dropped in the earlier match. Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for just 19 runs. Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant were the only batsmen who scored more than 20 runs. They together saw DC crossing the fifty run mark. But skipper Iyer couldn’t convert the start into a good score. He was out for 25 runs.

After Iyer was dismissed, DC lost wickets at regular intervals. Stoinis and Pant were dismissed in the same over by Jasprit Bumrah. Stoinis scored just five runs while Pant again wasted the opportunity of getting to a good score after the start he got. DC’s keeper-batsman was dismissed for only 21 runs. Due to excellent bowling from Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals were under tremendous pressure. They lost their eight wickets under the score of hundred runs. But still, they managed to bat out the 20 overs.

DC scored 110 runs in their innings after they won the toss and chose to bat first. The bowlers of Mumbai Indians kept DC in a complete mess. Boult was the one who had started the procession of wickets, while Bumrah continued that trend, and Rahul Chachar with Coulter – Nile also chipped in. Boult and Bumrah took three wickets each to their names. At the same time, Chachar and Coulter – Nile picked up one wicket each.

The run chase was relatively easy for a powerful batting line up, which the defending champions have. De Kock and Ishan Kishan gave a perfect platform, which made this contest as a one-sided affair. The MI openers shared a stand of 68 runs for the first wicket.

But even when Nortje dismissed de Kock for 26 runs. Still, MI cruised along nicely with Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who guided the Blues towards the victory line. Kishan continued his class as the opening batsman of MI, while SKY had very little to do in this run chase.

Ishan Kishan won the match award player for his outstanding knock of unbeaten 72 runs, and Suryakumar was not out on 12 runs, which guided the Mumbai Indians to win this match by nine wickets.

Delhi had again cut a sorry figure in this match. They lost the game mainly because of their batting failure, and their bowlers too couldn’t put a fight in this contest as Anrich Nortje was the only bowler who picked up a wicket in this match for Delhi Capitals.

The next two matches on Sunday will be played between Kings XI Punjab Vs Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi at 3.30 PM IST, and Rajasthan Royals Vs Kolkata Knight Riders will play their match in Dubai at 7.30 PM IST.
