Dominic Calvert-Lewin – The Man on a Mission

We are now 7 game weeks into the new  Premier League season. At this time there is one man who has surprised us all more than any other. That would be the Everton number 9 Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The arrival of James Rodriguez, Doucoure, and Allan has added some serious midfield and attacking firepower into that Everton line up. But the main man behind the flurry of goals is not a new signing, it’s youngster Calvert-Lewin.

Dominic has scored 8 goals in 7 league appearances including his first Premier League hat trick against West Brom. He also netted another hat trick in the Carabao Cup against West Ham United. Calvert-Lewin looks like a transformed player this season. His wastefulness and lack of impact that characterized his appearances last season seem to be a trait of the past.

The Everton forward has showcased a tremendous aerial prowess with 5 headed goals already this season in all competitions. His finishing has seen a marked improvement with an average of 1.14 goals per match in the league. He also has a phenomenal shot conversion rate of 32% this season. His brilliant form in front of goal warranted his first England call up.

Gareth Southgate honored him with a start in the friendly against Wales. The young lion repaid his manager’s faith with a towering header on his debut to open his National Team account. Calvert-Lewin already has 12 goals this season and does not look like slowing down.

The arrival of Ancelotti at Everton has worked in favor of DCL. He is learning from one of Europe’s most experienced and successful coaches. Having coached the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ancelotti has experienced first hand what it entails to manage a world-class forward. He has the expertise needed to guide Calvert-Lewin to unlocking his true potential and achieving new heights every day.

Unlike previous seasons, Dominic is no longer wasteful in front of goal. His movement has improved significantly and he now picks up positions in and around the box that make him a defender’s nightmare. At the start of the season, most people believed that this was just a purple patch. But time has not changed much. His speed, strength, and natural ability have transformed him into a genuine threat.

The creativity brought to the table by the likes of James Rodriguez has also been a major boost. Everton now creates a lot more chances and that always translates into more goals for a striker with his quality. The young Englishman has a long way to go if he is to cement his place among the best strikers in the country and in the world. But he is definitely on the right track.
