#1. The First Innings:

De Kock and Rohit Sharma opened for MI. In the first over itself, De Kock started pressing the accelerator. Rohit Sharma’s poor run continued and he got out on a golden duck. The in-form Suryakumar Yadav made an excellent partnership with De Kock. Under their partnership, things progressed smoothly for the Mumbai Indians. Both of them stabilized the innings, with De Kock playing the aggressive role. After De Kock’s wicket, the innings slowed down for MI. Ishan Kishan had a slow start to his innings but he played an extremely aggressive inning towards the end. The big man Kieron Pollard failed today as he got out on a duck as well. Towards the end of MI’s innings, it was the Hardik Pandya show. Pandya hit 5 sixes and had a strike rate of over 250. Ashwin proved to be the best bowler for the Capitals today, taking 3 wickets at an economy of 7.2. The Aussie, Daniel Sams proved to be the most expensive. MI posted a mammoth total on board.

#2. The Second Innings:

Trent Boult opened the bowling for MI. In the first over itself, Prithvi Shaw was caught behind and Ajinkya Rahane was out LBW. Delhi Capitals were 0-2. It was an excellent start for the MI with a double-wicket maiden over. In the second over, Shikhar Dhawan was yorked by Jasprit Bumrah. The score was 0-3 for the Capitals at that point in time. Stoinis and captain Shreyas Iyer had a huge task at hand. Iyer couldn’t perform under the pressure and got out on a loose delivery. Rishabh Pant’s wicket followed. The only resistance was put by Stoinis and Axar Patel. They targeted particularly Rahul Chahar and Pollard. Chahar was hit for too many sixes. Both were going all guns blazing. This came to a halt when Bumrah got Stoinis through a beautiful delivery that rattled the stumps. At this point in time, it was all over for DC and MI were completely on top. The required run-rate looked almost impossible to get. Bumrah took 4 wickets in today’s game and has now overtaken Kagiso Rabada for the purple cap. Even Trent Boult managed to pick up 2 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah was declared the man of the match.

Delhi Capitals have got a young and dynamic side. But this match reinforces the thought regarding their ability to perform under pressure. Looks like the side falls short of the required experience to handle such pressure situations. DC got a lifeline here, but if they perform in the same fashion again, they might be knocked out in the next match. DC coach Ponting needs to give a thought while MI needs to just repeat its performance in the final. Wait for the upcoming exciting games and stay tuned!
