Premier League Saturday Review – Matchweek 8


Saturday saw 4 games being played in the PL. The Red Devils took on the Toffees at Goodison Park. Crystal Palace played against the struggling Leeds at Selhurst Park. Chelsea played a home game against Sheffield United. The final game of the day was played between the Hammers and Fulham at the London Stadium. Bruno Fernandes, Wilfried Zaha & Hakim Ziyech stole the show on Saturday.

At Goodison Park, the Red Devils struggled early in the match with Everton scoring through Bernard. Immediately after that Bruno Fernandes scored the equalizer for the Devils through an amazing header. Later in the first half, Bruno scored again when an attempted cross to Rashford, hit the post and entered into the net. United controlled the majority of ball possession throughout the game. Late in the second half, Edinson Cavani scored his first goal for United to take the scoreline to 3-1 while Bruno Fernandes claimed the assist. United won the game.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace thrashed Leeds 4-1. Early in the first half, Crystal Palace took the lead through a corner when Scott Dann scored a header. Bamford seemed to have equalized within 5 minutes but VAR disallowed the goal on account of an offside. Immediately thereafter Eze scored his first for Palace through an amazing free-kick. Within 5 minutes again Bamford scored Leeds’s first goal. Later, Helder Costa scored an own goal while defending. The goalkeeper wasn’t alert enough. The final goal for Palace came through Ayew, who tucked in a Zaha assist coolly.

Chelsea demolished Sheffield 4-1 at Stamford Bridge. Early in the match, Ramsdale made an early same to deny Chelsea the lead. Immediately after that Sheffield scored a goal through McGoldrick and lead 1-0. In the 24th minute, Tammy Abraham equalized for Chelsea. Chelsea was close to scoring again through a Ziyech ball which hit the crossbar. Later, Chilwell scored off a Ziyech delivery again. Late in the second half, Thiago Silva scored his first goal off a Ziyech delivery off a corner. Chelsea hit the final nail in the coffin when Timo Werner scored in the 80th minute. In the stoppage time, Chelsea came to scoring another through Mason Mount, but the shot was saved.

West Ham created all problems for Fulham at the London Stadium. For most of the first half, they were on the attack. The hero for the first half for Fulham was the former PSG keeper Areola, who made a lot of heroic saves. West Ham came close to scoring twice but found the crossbar. Finally, in the stoppage time of the second half, they took the lead through Tomas Soucek. Very late in the stoppage time, Fulham got a penalty. Lookman took a poor shot and Fulham lost 1-0.
