Supernovas won the toss and invited the Trailblazers team to bat first in this final encounter. In response, Smriti Mandhana and her team did not give an excellent performance with the bat despite skipper Mandhana gave alone fight at the top order as an opening batsman. Trailblazers got off to a great start. Skipper Mandhana had two low scorers before the final match. But she delivered her best in the final, which is why Trailblazers could score a modest total in this match.

Trailblazers kept the bowlers of Supernovas under pressure with the opening partnership of 71 runs. Dottin and Mandhana laid a solid foundation intending to reach a good score after the 20 overs. But the Windies opener, Deandra Dottin couldn’t convert her start into a substantial score. She batted for 11 overs and scored just 20 runs to her name. It was the skipper of Trailblazers who took charge in this innings.

Smriti Mandhana led the team from the front and scored her first half-century of this tournament. Mandhana batted well till the 14th over mark and by then, the Trailblazers team went past the hundred run mark as well. Till Mandhana was in the crease, the bowling unit of Supernovas were under pressure. But they came back strongly after they picked up the wicket of Trailblazers captain, Smiriti Mandhana. Siriwerdene was the one who got the big fish out. Due to the brilliant work done by Taniya Bhatia behind the stumps, Smriti was stumped after she scored well made 68 runs to her name. The wicket of Smriti fell at the wrong time for the Blazers. But, at the same time, it was a massive relief for the Supernovas team.

Then the Supernovas team never looked back as the Trailblazers batsmen tumbled, fumbled, and crumbled in their innings. The middle order of the Trailblazers team lost the momentum completely, which was set by their captain Mandhana. But after she was out, the Supernovas came from behind and triggered a massive collapse in the Blazers’ innings. Apart from Richa Ghosh, who scored ten runs, the rest of the batsmen of Trailblazers fell after they scored runs in single digits.

The score, which looked to cross the 160 run mark, it didn’t even come close of 120 runs after their 20 over were done. Due to an excellent comeback by Supernovas bowlers, Trailblazers managed only 118 runs on the board. Radha Yadav is the rising star of the women’s team. The spinner picked up a five-wicket haul in T20s. On Saturday she was the one who defended just ten runs from the last over, and yesterday she went one step ahead in her career by picking up five wickets in the shortest format.

The Trailblazers batsmen were completed rattled because of a brilliant performance from Radha Yadav. Poonam Yadav and Siriwerdene were the ones who also picked up one wicket each to their names. It seemed like Supernovas will run away with this match as 119 runs was not a daunting task for the Supernovas women.  But it was a great fight which was put up by Trailblazers women, which made this match a thrilling encounter.

The start was not the greatest one for Supernovas, their batsman in form Chamari Athapaththu was out early. She scored a brilliant half-century in the last game against the same opposition. But in the final, she managed to score just six runs. Taniya Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues got a decent start in this innings, but they also fell in quick succession. Taniya scored 14 runs while Rodrigues was out after she scored 13 runs to her name.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was the only batsman who scored more than 20 runs in this match. She shared a mini partnership with Shashikala Siriwerdene, which helped the Supernovas team to go past the fifty run mark. But the wicket of Siriwerdene again puts the pressure back on the Supernovas team as Anuja Patil was also run out for just eight runs. The Supernovas batsmen were in the mess in the final while chasing a modest score.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur had put a decent fight for the Supernovas, but she was out even before the score could reach the hundred mark. Kaur was out after she was the top scorer with 30 runs. The Trailblazers team managed to restrict Supernovas for just 102 runs after their 20 overs were completed. By doing so, Trailblazers won the final match of the Women’s T20 Challenge by 16 runs, and they also clinched their maiden title.

The Supernovas team fought hard with the ball. But they were nowhere in the chase. They lost wickets at regular intervals, and there was no significant partnership that would have kept them in the game. The Trailblazers bowlers did an awesome job of restricting a team while defending a modest score. Salma Khatun picked up three wickets, and Depto Sharma took two wickets while Sophie Ecclestone picked up one wicket to her name.

Smiriti Mandhana won the player of the match in the final. She played an outstanding inning of 68 runs, which set up a thrilling win for the Trailblazers.
