IPL 2020 – The Bowling Magicians of the Season

The shortest format of the game is the cruelest for the bowlers. The T20 format is tailor-made for batsmen who can entirely overshadow any good performances done by the bowlers. Like all the seasons, the 13th edition Indian Premier League also saw many good bowling performances. Many Indian youngsters like Ravi Bishnoi, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, and T Natarajan earned a good name in the Tournament. The experienced campaigners like Chahal, Rabada, Nortje and Boult also had good seasons. Let us have a look at the top five bowlers with the most wickets in IPL 2020.

  • Kagiso Rabada – The pace bowler from South Africa tops the list by calming 30 wickets in IPL 2020 season. Inspite of the brilliant performances of Rabada, Delhi Capitals couldn’t win the finals of the IPL 2020 season. They lost to Mumbai Indians in the final match of this year’s Tournament. Rabada claimed 30 wickets from just 17 matches. He had an average of 18.26, and his economy rate was 8.34.

 

  • Jasprit Bumrah – The Indian speed sensation Jasprit Bumrah is the second bowler on the bowlers’ list who picked up the most wickets in the IPL 2020 season. Bumrah has been the main man in the Mumbai Indians squad. MI won their fifth title mainly because of Bumrah and Boult, who did the early damage whenever they bowled. But when they were rested in a game which was played against SRH. MI lost that game very massively. Bumrah was the spearhead of MI’s bowling attack alongside Trent Boult. During the IPL 2020 season, Boom Boom Bumrah picked up 27 wickets from just 15 games. He had an average of 14.96, and his economy rate was 6.73.

 

  • Trent Boult – The Kiwi pace bowler, Trent Boult, is the mentioned third in the list. He has been sensational for the five-time champion team. Alongside Bumrah, Boult was the other bowler who made a significant impact in the IPL 2020 season. In the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, Boult was successfully picking early wickets upfront, which caused pressure on the opposition team. Boult has set the right trend in this season for MI and that’s why The Blues defended their IPL 2019 crown successfully. In this season, Boult has played 15 matches, and he picked up 25 wickets to his name. Boult rarely gave away runs from his quota of four overs. In IPL 2020 season, he had an average of 18.28, and his economy rate was 7.97.

 

  • Anrich Nortje – Another speedster from South Africa has been featured in this list of the IPL 2020 season’s highest wicket-takers. Nortje was in good form in the starting matches of the IPL 2020 season. He also bowled the fastest delivery in the history of IPL this season. Along with his Proteas partner Rabada, Nortje was the one who gave DC an early breakthrough in the games which he played. He played 16 matches this season and Nortje picked up 22 wickets with an average of 23.27 and an economy rate of 8.39.

 

  • Yuzvendra Chahal – Chahal is the only spin bowler mentioned in this list, which has been dominated by the fast bowlers. Chahal is also just a second Indian bowler to be named in this list. He has been a spin sensation for Royal Challengers Bangalore over the years now. As a lead spinner in the team, Yuzvi gave yet another terrific performance with the ball. He was the one who gave the vital breakthroughs, which helped RCB to finish in the fourth position in this year’s IPL. Chahal has played 15 matches for the Virat’s RCB team, and he ended this season with 21 wickets to his name. He had an average of 19.28, and his economy was 7.08 this season.
