Like all other team sports, individual brilliance in Cricket can only take you so far. Sometimes incredible innings from players are not enough to win you a match. • Shikhar Dhawan vs Kings XI Punjab

The Delhi Capitals man created IPL history with his 106 runs in 61 balls. He became the first player in IPL history to score back to back centuries in IPL games. He smashed 12 boundaries and 4 sixes in his quest. The rest of his team however did not step up and the Kings XI chased down the target of 164 comfortably with an over to spare.

  • Ishan Kishan vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

One of the most incredible games of this IPL season, Mumbai Indians vs RCB had it all. After being seemingly dead in the water, Ishan Kishan and Kieran Pollard inspired a late charge that was almost successful. Kishan hit 99 runs off 58 balls to drag Mumbai back into the game and force a super over. However inspite of his heroics the game went into a super over and RCB managed to clinch the match through the Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers partnership.

  • Chris Gayle vs Rajasthan Royals

With 8 sixes and 6 fours, Chris Gayle fell one run short of becoming the second oldest IPL centurion. After being benched initially, Chris Gayle made himself indispensable to the Kings XI this season. His 99 in 63 balls was a phenomenal return and made him the first player to cross a thousand IPL sixes. The Rajasthan Royals however chased the score with ease. They won the game with 15 balls to spare in spite of a respectable target of 186.

  • Mayank Agarwal vs Delhi Capitals

The Punjab youngster hit 89 runs in just 60 balls to give the Kings XI a fighting chance against the Delhi Capitals. His incredible performance forced the game into a super over, but the Kings XI could not capitalize and ultimately Delhi won the match. Mayank however is a talented youngster and has proved this season that he is a serious asset for the IPL and the Indian cricket team.

  • Nicholas Pooran Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Pooran’s 77 runs in 37 balls set the record for the fastest half century in this season’s IPL and the second fastest of all time. The West Indian smashed Abdul Samad for 28 runs in his first over. Punjab have been possibly this IPL’s biggest upsets. The talent in their squad  is often not reflected on the pitch. The rest of his team crumbled and managed only 132 runs. David Warner’s team won the game comfortably in the end.

It is always disappointing to see such brilliant batting go to waste. The players however can pride themselves for their brilliant performances. It is even harder to shine when everyone around you crumbles. These batsmen showed character in the face of adversity. They may not have won the matches but they surely won our hearts.
