Devdutt Padikkal is the rising star of the Indian Premier League 2020 season. The young left-handed opening batsman from RCB was the only one to impress one and all. He will be also vital for RCB in next season. It is difficult to make a good name when the star players like Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers are in the team. But Padikkal performed so well that he did not get overshadowed despite having two legendary names on his side.

Devdutt Padikkal is the only new hope for the men in red for their next IPL journey, which might be just six months away. The IPL 2021 season might be played in India, according to the reports, so RCB might have another chance to grab their hands on the trophy. Padikkal has scored 580 runs from just 12 matches for his senior state team of Karnataka. He scored those runs at an average of 64.44 and a strike rate of 175.75. on also smashed an unbeaten knock of 122 runs in his debut season of that tournament. Due to his excellence with the Karnataka team, it helped them to win a title in the domestic season.

In his first-class cricket career, Paddikal has scored 907 runs from just 15 matches. He had an average of 34.5 and his strike rate of 50.5. He has scored 607 runs from just 13 matches of his List A career. He had an average of 59.1 and a strike rate of 78.1. In his overall career of the shortest format, Devdutt has scored 1053 runs from just 27 T20 matches. He had and strike rate of 148.5 and an average of 43.9.

Then his journey in the IPL 2020 season started with the RCB franchise. He was auctioned for the same franchise in the 2019 IPL season. But he couldn’t get a single game in the last year’s season, although he played some excellent knocks in the Ranji Trophy.

During the IPL 2020 season, RCB showed faith with this youngster, and he was selected as the opening batsmen for all the matches which RCB played. Padikkal has a naturally aggressive style which suited him as the top-order batsman. Padikkal grabbed this opportunity with both hands, and he cemented his place in the side of the whole tournament. Despite not having much experience in facing the quality International bowlers in his career. Padikkal did exceptionally well as an opener for his side.

Padikkal also had the backing of his fluent knock of unbeaten 122 runs as his merit. He played that fantastic knock when he was just 19 years and 127 days old. That knock was the most remarkable example, which was set by Padikkal. It said that he can handle all sorts of pressure as the opening batsman.

The 20-year-old southpaw can play all the shots in the book, and the most crucial thing which makes him stand out from all the openers of his age is that he is the composure, temperament, and hunger for scoring runs. Form is temporary and class is permanent. Padikkal has presented a strong case for himself due to his classy style as the opening batsmen. In the IPL 2020 season, a seasoned campaigner like Aaron Finch was dropped, but Padikkal was the one player in which had RCB persisted in IPL 2020.

Padikkal’s most suitable position is in the top order. He can bat well when the fielders are inside the circle. He can be given a free license to play his shots in the power-play overs. Padikkal is the perfect batter that RCB has for its next season.

He is the one with Aaron Finch, who can play the big shots to give the start which the team wants from him. Then there are players like Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers, who build on that start which is provided by the two quality openers. Padikkal has the potential to be the next big thing in Indian cricket, probably the next Virat Kohli. The King of Cricket, Virat Kohli also started his career with many legends around in the IPL 2008 season with the RCB.

During the IPL 2020 season, Padikkal has played 15 matches, and he scored 473 runs with a strike rate of 124.80, and he also smashed five half-centuries to his name in this edition of the cash-rich league tournament. Padikkal also won the Emerging Player award for the IPL 2020.

The only thing which has come in Padikkal’s way is his consistency. He has potential, and his ability to big-play strokes has been an unmatched quality. But if Padikkal becomes a consistent performer at all the levels, then his maiden India call-up will also not be far away.
