Major League Cricket (MLC) plans to grow the sport of cricket in the U.S.

USA Cricket has decided to grow cricket as a sport in America as they now have received approval on a long-term lease of 15 years to redevelop the stadium that formerly housed independent league baseball team Texas Airhogs as its first major cricket stadium in the United States.

The stadium will be remodeled by USA Cricket’s strategic partners American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) as they promise to turn it into a state-of-the-art cricketing facility.  It had also previously housed the USL League Two soccer club Texas United.

“As the first Major League Cricket stadium in the United States, Grand Prairie represents a seminal moment for the sport in America, and we are incredibly excited to partner with the City of Grand Prairie to bring Major League Cricket to Dallas,” said Sameer Mehta and Vijay Srinivasan, co-founders of ACE and MLC. “Grand Prairie’s centralized location in the U.S. and the thriving Texas cricketing community, allied with the quality of the facility, made it the perfect site for us and we are certain that this is the beginning of a fruitful long-term partnership with the City that will bring much success.”

In October 2020, USA Cricket released its first “Foundation Plan,” which outlines a vision to make cricket — the world’s second most popular sport — a major sport in the U.S., and become a full member of the ICC by 2030.

The venue will also be a centerpiece of USA Cricket’s efforts to bring major international events to the United States. USA Cricket also aims to host major ICC tournaments such as the T20 World Cup as well as the World Cup qualifiers for Men and Women by the year 2031.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to bring cricket to Texas by converting our minor league baseball stadium,” said Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen. “Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world behind soccer, with a large and growing audience in the states. We look forward to an exciting future with our partners.”
