Top 5 Indian batsmen who have scored the most ODI runs against Australia

The three-match ODI series between India and Australia will start on Friday, 27th November 2020, at SCG – Sydney Cricket Ground. Apart from the ODI series, India is also scheduled to play the three-match T20 International series and four-match Test series in Australia.

For any subcontinent batsmen, Australia has been a difficult opponent to score runs in across the formats. There have been very few Asian batsmen who have dominated against Australia in the 50 over format.

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record of scoring the most runs, centuries, and half-centuries for India against Australia in the test matches and ODIs. The likes of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid also join the elite list of scoring the most runs against the Aussies in the two formats which they played.

In this current generation of modern-day cricket, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan are the batsmen who have donned the ODI format against the Aussies. In the upcoming ODI series, the absence of Rohit Sharma is a huge blow. But India can bank on Kohli and Dhawan to set up a win for the men in blue.

In today’s segment, we have brought the list of Top five batsmen from India who have scored the most runs in the 50 over format against Australia –

  • Sachin Tendulkar – The Master Blaster tops the list of scoring the most runs against the Aussies in the ODI format. Sachin has given many best performances in the 50 over format. But his Desert Storm against Australia in Sharjah will remain the best. Sachin had dominated the might bowlers who were in their prime form. Against a quality pace and spin attack, Sachin had scored the most runs. He has scored 3077 runs in 70 innings and 71 matches played against Australia. He scored those runs at an average of 44.59 and a strike rate of 84.71. Sachin also scored nine centuries and 18 half-centuries in ODIs against the mighty Aussies.
  • Rohit Sharma – The second most ODI run-scorer against Australia is the Indian Cricket Team’s, Hit Man. Rohit has been India’s most successful opening batsman in the current modern-day generation, and against the mighty Aussies, Hit Man is as dominant as Sachin Tendulkar was. Rohit Sharma stands second on the list as he has scored 2208 runs against Australia in the 50 over format. Rohit took just 40 ODI games to amass these runs with an average of 61.33 and a strike rate of 93.87. In ODI cricket, Rohit has scored one double century with eight centuries and fifties against Australia.
  • Virat Kohli – The current India captain will be vital for the team in the upcoming ODI series against the Aussies. India will look upon their skipper in the absence of their premiere opening batsman, Rohit Sharma. VK stands third in the list of scoring the most runs in the ODI format against Australia. Against the five-time World Cup winners, Kohli has played 40 matches so far, and in that, he has scored 1910 runs at an average of 54.67 and a strike rate of 96.65. With that, Kohli has also smashed eight half-centuries and centuries to his name against the Aussies.

  • MS Dhoni – The former Indian skipper and the most successful captain of the team features fourth in this list. India’s tour of Australia in 2020 will be without MS Dhoni, and the last time India won the ODI series in Australia, MS Dhoni was awarded the man of the series for scoring three back to back half-centuries on that tour. Mahi was also the highest run-getter for the team last time. In his ODI career, MS has played 55 ODI matches and 44 innings against Australia. He has scored 1660 runs with a strike rate of 80.89 and an average of 44.86. Dhoni has scored two centuries and 11 half-centuries against Australia. His highest score against the Aussies was unbeaten 139 runs, which he scored in Nagpur.
  • Shikhar Dhawan – Another terrific opening batsman from India features in this list. Shikhar Dhawan will be in good nick when India takes on Australia in the first ODI match at Sydney. Dhawan had a great IPL. He was the second-highest run-scorer for his franchise team, Delhi Capitals. India will expect that; the southpaw will be consistent in Australia as well. Gabbar has scored 1145 runs after playing 26 innings and 27 ODI matches against Australia so far. He scored those runs at an average of 45.80 and a strike rate of 98.79. The opener has also scored four centuries and six half-centuries. With that, his highest score against Australia is 143 runs.
