Four Indian Batsmen with ODI and Test Centuries in Australia

Scoring a run in Australia is a massive challenge in itself. Just imagine how the batsmen have scored centuries in two different formats of the game while facing the top quality bowlers from Australia in Australia.

Facing quality spin and pace bowling is a challenge for many batsmen, especially when they tour aboard in challenging conditions like Australia. The Asian and the subcontinent batsmen struggle to score runs Down Under.

There are only a few batsmen who have succeeded in scoring runs in ODI and Test format while playing against Australia. These batsmen had the unique skills which helped to tackle many obstacles while facing the quality pace and spin bowlers of that country.

Today in this segment, we shall let our fans know about those four batsmen from India who have achieved a rare feat of scoring Test and ODI centuries against Australian on their home soil. We brought this list just before the start of the ODI series between the two countries.

  • Sachin Tendulkar – The name of Master Blaster Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is well known to everyone in the International Cricket arena. He has the record of scoring the most overall runs, centuries, and half-centuries in his glorious 24-year-old career. Sachin Pajji is also the one who has scored the most runs, centuries, and fifties against Australia in ODI and Test matches. He is the first Indian batter to smash centuries in the Test and ODI format against Australia on their home soil. Sachin has played 20 Test matches against the Aussies in Australia. In that, Sach has scored 1809 runs with six tons to his name. He had an average of 53.20 in Test matches. Sachin had played 25 ODI matches in Australia and in that, he had scored 740 runs with one ton to his name. He had an average of 30.83 and a strike rate of 70.74 in Australia.
  • Sourav Ganguly – In Indian Cricket, the word aggression had come because of the Prince of Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly. India was a friendly team before Dada took the captaincy. But when Sourav was made the skipper of the Indian Cricket Team, then this team became the team to beat. Under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly, India mainly learned to win in overseas conditions, and the team also developed the never say die attitude, just like Australia still has with them. Against Australia, India had won two fantastic Test matches which are still remembered by many. The Test match won in Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 2001, and Adelaide Oval in 2003 are the most epic wins which India had against a strong team like Australia. After Tendulkar, it is Dada who had scored the centuries in Australia in the two formats. Ganguly has played 11 Test matches on the Australian soil, and he had scored 696 runs at an average of 34.80 with one test century to his name. In ODIS, Dada had played nine ODI games in Australia, and in that, he had scored 221 runs with an average of 24.55 and a strike rate of 72.45. In the ODI format too, Dada had scored one century to his name.

  • VVS Laxman – India’s premier batsman from Hyderabad, loved facing the Aussies in the two formats which he played. Laxman has played very, very special innings against the best Australian team. His 281 run knock in Eden Gardens is still regarded as the best knock played by an Indian batsman against Australia. In 2003, Laxman and Rahul Dravid again bailed India out of a tricky situation which helped India to win a memorable overseas win on that Australian tour. In Australia, Lacchi had played 15 Test matches, and he scored 1236 runs with the help of four centuries, and he had an average of 44.14. In ODI cricket also VVS was seen in his full flow against Australia. He should have played 2003, and the 2007 world cup matches for India. But the team was unfortunate that a quality batsman like Laxman missed out on both the ICC events. Laxman had played just nine ODI innings on the Australian soil and in that, he has scored 262 runs with the help of two centuries. His average in ODI cricket in Australia was 37.42.
  • Virat Kolhi – The Indian Current Skipper is the last man who has made it to this list. In the current generation of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli is the only Indian batter to smash a century in ODI and Test format in Australia. Virat will be India’s hope yet again when India plays the first ODI on Friday 27th November 2020 at Sydney. Virat is also in the unique landmark of scoring the fastest 12,000 ODI Runs. King is just 133 runs away to get to another milestone in his extraordinary career. Till now Kohli has played just 12 Test matches in Australia and in that he has scored 1274 runs with the help of six tons to his name. VK has a test average of 55.39 in Australia, and in ODI Cricket, Kohli had played 15 matches so far. He has scored 629 runs with an average of 44.92 with one century to his name.
