With the first match of India’s Tour of Australia is coming up on Friday, 27th November 2020 at Sydney Cricket Ground, today in this segment, we shall bring a list of the top four Indian bowlers who have picked up the most wickets against Australia in the ODI 50 over format.

  • Kapil Dev – This list starts with India’s most remarkable all-rounders and the country’s first world cup winning captain Kapil Dev. India won the 1983 world cup in England under the leadership of Kapil Dev. Against Australia, his performance was even more brilliant. He is India’s highest ODI wicket-taker against the Aussies in the 50 over format. In 41 ODI matches and 31 innings, Dev has picked up 45 wickets to his name. Dev took those wickets with an economy rate of 3.67 and the strike rate of 45.1. His best performance against Australia was five wickets for 43 runs.
  • Ajit Agarkar – India’s ex fast bowler stands second in this list. Ajit Agarkar was the spearhead of India’s bowling attack with Zaheer Khan, Ventakesh Prasad, and Javagal Srinath. Ajit has picked up the second-most wickets for India against Australia. He has picked up 36 wickets from just 21 matches with an average of 28.41 and an economy rate of 5.84. He has picked up a six-wicket haul as well. His best performance came when Agarkar picked up six wickets and gave away just 42 runs.
  • Javagal Srinath – The engineer turned cricket fast bowler was the most dependable bowler for India in ODI and Test matches. He shined like a sun under Sourav Ganguly’s leadership. Srinath also holds the record of picking the third most wickets for India against Australia in the 50 over format. Srinath had picked up 33 wickets to his name against a more challenging opponent. He did this magic in 29 ODI matches played against Australia. He had an average of 36.78 and an economy rate of 4.89. Sri could not pick up a five-wicket haul against Australia. But his deadly line and length had trouble the greats of that country. His best figures against this champion team were four wickets for 30 runs.
  • Harbhajan Singh – This list ends with India’s terminator, Harbhajan Singh. Bhajji is still India’s successful spin bowler in all three formats. He was aggressive against all the International teams. But his aggression was shown more against Australia whenever these two countries have played so far. Bhajji’s only hat trick in the longer version of the game was also against the Aussies. In the 50 over format also he has troubled many Aussie great batsmen. In 35 ODI matches played against Australia, Singh has picked up 32 wickets to his name with an average of 46.43 and an economy rate of 4.63.
