The Proteas didn’t bat that bad in the first game. They posted a decent total on the board after the visitors, England won the toss and opted to bowl first. South Africa should have opened the innings with Faf Du Plessis along with Quinton De Kock.

They opted for Temba Bavuma as their opener. But he managed just five runs to his name, and South Africa couldn’t get the desired start in their innings. Faf and De Kock have been in good form due to the IPL 2020 season in the UAE.

Du Plessis continued his classy form in this opening match as well. He shared a much-needed partnership with De Kock of 77 runs.

De Kock has been in good nick. But he could not convert the start into a big score. The 77 runs were crucial for the home team in the game context, and after this partnership, South Africa didn’t have any other stand in their innings.

Chris Jordan was the one who broke this stand for the visitors, England. Quinton De Kock was out for 30 runs, and England paved their back into the match. Then it was Du Plessis, who mastered another half-century in T20 cricket, and he took the team towards the hundred run mark as well.

But the team needed more from their former skipper. England all-rounder picked up his second wicket in the form of Du Plessis to give another big breakthrough. Faf Du Plessis was out for well made 58 runs to his name.

The lower-order batting of South Africa couldn’t kick on as they lacked the finishing kick in the innings. Van Der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen scored a decent amount of runs after Du Plessis was dismissed.

But that wasn’t enough for South Africa as they could not score more than 180 runs on the board. Dussen scored 37 runs, Klaasen scored 20 runs, with George Linde managed just 12 runs to his name. Biljon was not out on seven runs as South Africa posted a decent score of 176 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

The bowling was good from England. Apart from the partnership between Du Plessis and De Kock, the England bowlers held a tight grip on the match. Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers for the visiting team. He picked up three wickets to his name while Archer, Jordan, and Tom Curran picked up one wicket each.

Everyone thought England was out of the game, with Ben Stokes was also dismissed for 37 runs. England had lost four wickets with just 119 runs on the board. Johnny Bairstow played a magnificent knock from that tricky situation to help England in this match.

Bairstow also played at an unfamiliar position of number four. He guided the England innings with a little support from Ben Stokes. Bairstow and Stokes shared a partnership of 85 runs before Stokes got out.

South Africa bowled decently. They had controlled the start and the middle proceedings of the match beautifully. But it was Jonny Bairstow who made a difference in the end. George Linde and Lungi Ngidi picked up two wickets each, and Tarbraiz Shamsi picked up one wicket to his name.

England won the 1st T20I match and they go 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series. Jonny Bairstow was awarded the man of the match for his excellent single-handed knock of unbeaten 86 runs.
