Both of the clubs entered onto arena after failing win points from their opening fixtures. Mobasher Rahman replaced Jitendra in midfield and Ricky Lallawmawma replaced Sandip Mandi for Red Miners. While goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh and South African Cole Alexander got their first start of the season.

Valskis living up to expectations

Jamshedpur lighted the game in the early minutes through pressing and attempting regular shots at goal. Nerijus Valskis’s shot in the box was blocked by Odisha defender Gaurav Bora using his hand. Thus penalty was awarded to Jamshedpur in the 11th minute and Nerijus Valskis converted it smoothly. Early lead boosted the confidence of Jamshedpur players to show fluidity on the pitch.

Shubham Sarangi tried to head down the ball in the box but both central defenders were off position already. And it turned out as a gift for Nerijus Valskis who netted the ball from clinical first touch in the 27th minute. A defensive error from youngster Sarangi helped Valskis to score his third goal of the season. Red Miners finished the first half with a dominating 2-0 lead over the Bhuvneshwar-based side.

Dream substitution for Odisha

Errors everywhere but this error from Jamshedpur goalkeeper TP Rehenesh emanated as a major twist of the match. Rehenesh deliberately tried to handle the ball with his hand outside the box and got a red card for infringement. Pawan Kumar replaced Rehenesh and the referee awarded a freekick to Odisha at the edge of the box. Diego Mauricio failed to convert freekick but scored a relieving goal for the same ball movement. The gameplay got charged up after Odisha players saw a ray of hope for points in the 77th minute of the game.

Six minutes were added to the regulation time hence it paid off handsomely for the virtual visitor side. Brazilian super-sub Diego Mouricio’s left-footed stunner equalized the scoreline in regulation time. Mauricio claimed the Hero of the Match award after his heroics emerging from the bench. Odisha gathered confidence from dream comeback to face Antonio Lopez Habas’ in-form ATK Mohun Bagan. While Jamshedpur will face Hyderabad’s impervious defense wall on Wednesday.
