The T20 series between India and Australia started today at the Manuka Oval, Canberra. After the 3rd ODI which India won at the same stadium, India registered yet another win today. With this win, India now leads the 3 match series 1-0. Let us analyze how the match progressed.

The First Innings: It was India’s turn to bat first. The batting was opened by Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul. Dhawan lost his wicket after making just 1 run of the 6 deliveries he faced. Virat Kohli followed suit without making a long stand with Rahul. Samson and Pandya contributed a few runs to the innings, but none of them was as effective as KL Rahul. Rahul scored a half-century. Yet again, he proved his importance for the national side. India were struggling around the 100 run mark with only 4-5 overs left at hand. Even the prospect of 140 seemed far-fetched at that point. Jadeja was the man who rose to the occasion. He played some excellent cricketing shots to find the gaps in the field and scored boundaries. In the last over, there was an incidence. Jadeja was hit on the helmet and suffered a concussion. He still played on for the rest of the over and scored 9 runs. However, India was allowed a concussion substitution and Chahal replaced Jadeja. Moises Henriques was the most successful bowler for the Aussies today. Starc also bowled well.

The Second Innings: Short and Finch opened the batting for Australia. The Aussies were off to a good start before Chahal took the wicket of Finch in the 8th over. That was just the beginning of the troubles for Australia. Soon after Finch’s wicket, Smith got out off Chahal’s delivery while attempting to hit a 6. The concussion substitute was doing wonders for India. Soon after Smith got out, it was Maxwell’s turn to bat. The T20 debutant, Natarajan got rid of Maxwell off an LBW. The original decision was not out but the review overturned the decision. Australia had a lot of batsmen left with Henriques and Wade yet to bat. Henriques was starting to build a good partnership with Short before Short was dismissed. India kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Shami was too expensive today. Abbott tried to score runs in the final overs but 150 was all Australia could make. All eyes will certainly be on Natarajan in the coming matches. He will probably prove to be an effective partner for Bumrah. The combination of Natarajan, Chahar, and Bumrah could be very effective. India definitely has got more options in the pace department with the rise of Natarajan.

The concussion substitute thing in today’s match did not go down well with Australia. The Australian coach and Finch were visibly unhappy and had a chat with the match referee. But going by the photo protocols it was the right decision. There will be debates in the coming days reading the confidence but for now, India won convincingly. Stay tuned for more!
