West Indies tour of New Zealand started off on a high as International Cricketing actions resumed in Australia as well as South Africa on the same day which was on 27th November 2020.  For the 1st T20, Kieron Pollard had recent success as he lead in the Caribbean Premier League and for a few games with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

New Zealand won the T20I series 2-0:

The Windies had one of the strongest T20 teams and were the favorites to win the T20 series. In the first T20I, WI skipper Kieron Pollard was the major run-scorer as he got his side out of a pickle and helped them post a competitive total of 180 runs for the Home to chase down. The rain-deducted match turned out to be a boundary fest as Devon Conway, James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner scored 41, 48*, and 31 runs respectively, and pulled off the mammoth task.

In the 2nd T20, the kiwi batsman Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway took the Windies bowlers to the cleaners. Glenn scored a century and Devon scored an unbeaten 65 runs. This helped the host post 238 runs on the board. It was a bit too much for the visitors as they lost the match and the series by a heavy margin of 72 runs. The 3rd and final T20 was abandoned due to rain.

New Zealand dominated in the Tests and inch closer to the top spot in ICC World Test Championship:

The action then moved on to the traditional form of cricket in white colors. In the 1st Test which was played in Hamilton, Kane Williamson came back to lead his side. The Windies won the toss and put the host to bat first on one of the greenest pitches one can ever see.

Tom Latham (86 off 184) laid the foundation with skipper Kane initially, later on, Kane kept going and played one of his finest knock in this format of the game as he scored 251 runs which consisted of 34 boundaries and 2 sixes. The Windies just failed to get the wicket early on the green track and the host posted 519 runs and declared. The visitors just failed to fire off with the bat and were dismantled for just 138 runs. Kiwi’s then enforced a follow-on but could manage to score just 247 runs and thus the hosts won this Test by an innings and 134 runs.

Coming into the 2nd and the final test, West Indies once again won the toss and elected to bowl again. The WI bowler Shannon Gabriel did well to pick the early wickets by using the wind at Willington. The Windies unfortunately had a few blunders in the field and dropped the kiwi batsman Henry Nicholls and the others a few times. It provided quite costly to them in the end as he went on to score 174 runs. Neil Wagner (66 off 42) helped the kiwis once again post a mammoth total of 460 runs.

The WI batting line up once again was disappointing as no one apart from Jermaine Blackwood (69 off 92) provided any resistance and gave kiwis the commanding position once again. Both Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson managed to register five-for’s and kept the visitors to just 131 runs.

The hosts once again enforced follow on, the visitors fought back but the kiwis were still in control. For WI, John Campbell (68), skipper Jason Holder (61), Joshua De Silva (57), and other contributions helped the reach 317 runs. Unfortunately, once again the score was a bit too much for the visitors as the host managed to win this match by an innings and 12 runs and clinched the Test series as well.
