The battle to clinch on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy commences from tomorrow (December 17) and a lot of discussion with regards to Indian Cricket Teams playing 11. The big question is who will make it into the side as the third seamer. Also, the fact that in Virat Kohli’s absence, Rahane is most likely to shoulder the Indian side for the last 3 Tests against the hosts.

Ishant Sharma’s absence a “big miss” says Rahane:

During the virtual press conference, Rahane mentioned that India does have a strong bowling attack but they will definitely miss Ishant Sharma who has become one of the best bowlers in this format of the game. He is also the most experienced fast bowler in the side.

However, the vice-captain is also confident of the fact despite Ishant’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will rise up to do the job down under. He also backed Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Sani, and Mohammed Siraj who have been added to the Test squad.

The India Test vice-captain also admitted the playing 11 is not decided yet and hinted that it will be decided today.

The India Test vice-captain believes in staying in the moment:

As Kohli departs for his paternity leave after the pink ball test, Rahane is most likely to lead the side for the last three Tests in Australia. Rahane mentioned he is currently not concerned about the leadership responsibilities and is focused on the first Test.

Adding to the statement he said right now, Virat is the captain and for him, it is all about helping Virat in this Test match and taking things forward later.

Rahane in the virtual press conference also talked about the challenges posed by the pitch in a pink-ball game. Also mentioning the fact that the pink ball behaves differently during the day as well as when the lights are on. He further highlighted communication and focus will be key factors.
