ISL Update: Roy Krishna & Co. Thrash Odisha Ahead Of A Pivotal Sunday Double-Header

ATK Mohun Bagan faced Odisha FC in a rather one-sided encounter on Saturday evening in the Indian Super League in Goa. Roy Krishna and Manvir Singh each scored a brace as they were rampant against a much inferior side under the new manager and won the game 4-1. This win meant ATK Mohun Bagan are only 3 points off leaders Mumbai City FC in the ISL table.

ATK Mohun Bagan started this game as firm favorites as an in-form Roy Krishna was looking set for another Golden Boot charge with his rise in form and the midfield seemed to be ticking well for them. The game started in expected fashion with ATKMB looking to push for an early goal. Some brilliant piece of work by Manvir meant that he curled the ball from the edge of the box with his left boot and banged it straight into the top left corner. It was only 11 minutes into the game that ATK Mohun Bagan took the lead. Cole Alexander scored for Odisha in the closing minutes of the first half.

In the 54th minute, an incisive pass by Roy Krishna found Manvir, who dribbled his way into the Odisha box from right-wing with nimble footwork and slotted the ball in the goal again to give ATK Mohun Bagan a second lead of the game. Odisha’s goalscorer Cole handled the ball in his own box as a result of which Roy Krishna took home the penalty to score his first goal of the match.

Roy Krishna added his name to the scoresheet again in three minutes at minute 86 when Manvir this time returned the favor with an assist and Krishna’s control beat Sarangi and then the Odisha goalkeeper for the goal. Roy Krishna and Manvir Singh had both scored 2 goals with both assisting a goal for each other as well. Manvir Singh was named Hero of the Match for his performance but it was Roy Krishna with his 11th goal of the season making him the leader in the Golden Boot race.
