The Sunday “Double Dhamaka” in the Indian Super League produced a competitive match between Jamshedpur FC and SC East Bengal in the early kickoff where the latter won 2-1 and a rather dull affair in the late kickoff between Hyderabad FC and Northeast United FC with ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Jamshedpur started the game brightly against East Bengal with the JFC striker Nerijus Valskis coming close to opening the scoring as early as the 3rd minute of the game. It only took East Bengal 3 more minutes to actually open the scoring through Matti Steinmann who glanced home a header from a beautifully curled corner.

While East Bengal showed great defensive resilience and a few chances for Pilkington and Steinmann, it was Jamshedpur’s Farukh Choudhary whose whipped cross was headed onto the post by Valskis in the 63rd minute which did create a little panic in the SC East Bengal defense. That miss proved costly as Pilkington smashed home a stunning finish from a Steinmann cross just 5 minutes after the Valskis miss to double the lead for SC East Bengal.

Although Jamshedpur pulled one back through Hatley in the final few minutes, SC East Bengal hung on to win their first match after a five-match winless run. Matti Steinmann was awarded the Hero of the Match for his brilliant midfield performance wherein he notched up a goal and an assist. SC East Bengal beat Jamshedpur FC 2-1.

Hyderabad FC and Northeast United FC played a rather uninspiring draw at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco in the late kickoff. Both teams struggled to bring any cohesion in the attacking plans during the first half with Lalengmawia and Meetei coming close to creating a half-chance for Northeast United.

Benjamin Lambot had a massive opportunity in the 85th minute of the game where he failed to head home from close range from a freekick. Liston & Aridane tested the Hyderabad goalkeeper late on but neither team could open the scoring. Lalengmawia was awarded the Hero of the Match for his controlling performance in midfield. The match ended 0-0.

Mumbai City FC, the League Leaders, play FC Goa in the Monday night game. Sergio Lobera will look to do a double over his former employers and if the game is as entertaining as the reverse fixture where Adam Le Fondre scored a late winner for Mumbai City FC, this game would be a high-quality cracker. The game will be LIVE on Star Sports 2 and Hotstar at 7:30 pm IST on 8th February 2021.
