Jamshedpur FC have given themselves an outside chance to qualify for the Top 4 by delivering a second-half knockout punch against Chennaiyin FC at GMC Bambolim on Wednesday. David Grande’s shot took a wicked deflection off Enes Sipovic and resulted in a goal that gave Jamshedpur FC a 1-0 win.

The game started in an expected attacking flair by the Chennaiyin FC forwards as in the first 5 minutes itself Lallianzuala Chhangte troubled the Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper to start the game in excellent fashion. It was around the half-hour mark this time that Chhangte created an opportunity for Rahim Ali but the shot was blocked.

Chennaiyin FC dominated the ball in the first half but lacked the consistent penetration that was required to break the Jamshedpur FC defense. It took Jamshedpur FC 36 minutes to register their first major opportunity when David Grande pounced on a Chennaiyin FC error but hit his shot off target. The game stayed at 0-0 at half-time with not much action in the remainder of the half.

David Grande was the center of attraction yet again at the start of the second half where he failed to head home a wonderful set-piece delivery. Jamshedpur FC unexpectedly so looked the better team in the second half with their intensity and attacking threat on transitions and set-pieces to which Chennaiyin FC didn’t seem to have much a control off. The Marina Machans lacked any attacking flair in the second half and looked completely out of sorts.

While Jamshedpur came close with Stephen Eze’s shot ending up at the wrong side of the post, Chennaiyin themselves were extremely close to grabbing a late smash & grab winner through Thoi Singh, but his poor decision making in the final third cost them that chance. It was David Grande in the 90th minute of the match who received the ball inside the ball and while he cut in and took a shot, it took a wicked deflection of Chennaiyin FC defender Enes Sipovic which gave Jamshedpur FC the ultimate joy of a late late winner.

Jamshedpur won the game 1-0 and Stephen Eze was awarded the Hero of the Match for his performance for his rock-solid performance in defense. Farukh Choudhary was awarded the DHL Winning Pass of the Match and the win ensured that after the final whistle, it was Jamshedpur who jumped 2 places above Chennaiyin to end up only 2 points short of a Top 4 spot, although having played a match extra.
