Osaka downs Jabeur

Naomi Osaka is going into the fourth round of the Australian Open on Friday with a 6-3 6-2 straight-set victory over Ons Jabeur as that Melbourne Park goes into lockdown.

It was vintage Osaka from the three-time Grand Slam champion, dominating with her serve while feasting on Jabeur’s second serve.

Serena sealed victory against Potapova

When Serena Williams was already on the court at that time Melbourne’s government declared lockdown.

Williams has fixed her spot for the next round with a 7-6(5), 6-2 win at Rod Laver Arena and then gushed about her daughter Olympia learning tennis in the on-court interview, drawing cheers from fans.

Williams found herself in danger early when Potopova broke her serve to move up 5-3 with a chance to serve for the first set. Williams had committed 16 unforced errors up to that point and just didn’t look 100 percent.

Halep entered into the last 16

Second-seeded Simon Halep has also made her spot in the next round with an easy win against Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-1 6-3. It’s Halep’s fourth consecutive year entering into the quarterfinal of the Australian Open.

“It’s always tough to play someone who you have never played before,” said Halep, a finalist at Melbourne Park in 2018 and semi-finalist last year. “I improved a lot in my serve, I worked a lot on it in the off-season. I want to improve in every way.”

Novak Djokovic survives a muscle tear

Top-seeded Novak Djokovic has recently managed his injury nightmare. In today’s match, he had a tough battle against Taylor Fritz. Novak has controlled his match with the initial 2 sets but during 3rd set, he suffered a side injury. Still, he managed to play all five sets and the last set victory with 7-6(1), 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2 score. The defending champion has shown his strength both physically and mentally on the court.

Dominic Thiem comes back against Nick Kyrgios in a marathon match

The U.S. Open Champion Dominic Thiem has performed a classic comeback with a full pack serve against Nick Kyrgios.  In a five-set hurdle, Thiem pushed himself and claimed 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 a thriller win over Kyrgios.

“That first match against Nick here on his favorite court with fans, there are easier things to do,” said the Austrian third seed. “Surely that’s one of the toughest challenges in our sport. Tonight was epic and a good last match before the lock-down, it’s really sad to say.”
