This match has always been touted as one of the most entertaining duels in the Indian Super League. The start lived upto the reputation as it took less than 30 seconds to open the scoring through Cleiton Silva who pounced on a wonderful cross by Udanta Singh. Sunil Chhetri almost doubled the score three minutes into the game when his shot was deflected wide by Hernan Santana.

Sunil Chhetri had another effort on goal in the 15th minute which was well saved by the Mumbai City FC goalkeeper Amrinder Singh. Bengaluru FC were on the front foot despite the Adam Le Fondre chance for Mumbai City FC while Erik Paartalu forced Amrinder into yet another save. Cleiton Silva doubled the scores with a glancing header after a wonderful delivery by Xisco Hernandez from a freekick. Bengaluru FC took the 2-0 advantage against Mumbai City FC into half-time.

A brilliant through ball by Cy Goddard set up Adam Le Fondre who was clinical in front of goal to half the deficit for Mumbai City FC. The Islanders seemed to have started the second half with good momentum as Mourtada Fall also tested the Bengaluru FC resolve but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu stood up to make the save.

The match took another turn when Gurpreet, who had taken inspiration from Ederson at the weekend, produced a fantastic long ball for his captain Sunil Chhetri who found himself 1v1 against Amrinder and while the Mumbai goalkeeper was in no man’s land, Sunil Chhetri smashed the ball in the corner of the net.

Cleiton tested Amrinder after Jackichand had tested Gurpreet in the 10 minutes after the goal as both Mumbai City FC and Bengaluru FC looked for a goal. The goal eventually came for Mumbai City FC as Adam Le Fondre got himself back into the scoresheet with a precise glancing header to lob the ball over the goalkeeper and score his second goal of the game and put Mumbai back in it at 2-3.

Mourtada Fall was a constant set from set-pieces and Adam Le Fondre also troubled Gurpreet with a couple of attempts but Bengaluru seemed to have managed to keep Mumbai at bay. The knockout punch was landed by Sunil Chhetri in stoppage time when a through-ball released him free in the Mumbai half and with only Amrinder to beat, he smashed the ball into the net with his left boot. Sunil Chhetri sealed a huge 4-2 win for Bengaluru FC to keep their playoff hopes alive while Mumbai City FC are now 2 points behind ATK Mohun Bagan.

Sunil Chhetri was awarded the Hero of the Match for his performance while Udanta Singh was awarded the DHL Winning Pass of the Match. Hyderabad FC face Kerala Blasters FC on 16th February 2021 at 7:30 pm IST. The match will be telecasted LIVE on Star Sports 2 and Hotstar. Stay Tuned!
