ISL Update: FC Goa win 3-1 against Odisha FC to move back into the Top 4

The Spanish contingent of FC Goa stepped up to the carnival at the Fatorda Stadium as the trio of Noguera, Ortiz and Gonzalez scored the goals to ensure a 3-1 win for Juan Ferrando’s side despite the Mauricio class towards the end of the first half by Odisha FC. The victory took FC Goa back in the Top 4 while Odisha FC remained bottom of the league.

Arshdeep Singh was always going to be in the thick of the action in this match and was called up early on when FC Goa midfielder Noguera tested the Odisha FC goalkeeper from an Ortiz pass. Arshdeep did well to deny the Spainian a goal early on. It only took FC Goa 18 minutes to take the lead when Gonzalez’s cross was met by Alberto Noguera and this time to ball flew past the Odisha FC goalkeeper into the back of the net.

Jorge Ortiz who had previously created an opportunity got himself on the scoresheet in the 26th minute through a wonderful counterattack. FC Goa defender Gama provided a wonderfully weighted pass to Jorge Ortiz who punished Odisha FC on this defensive transition frailties to make it 2-0. Lalhimpuia came close for Odisha but Dheeraj matched his effort with a good save. The comeback trail started for Odisha FC at the half-hour mark when Rakesh Pradhan assisted Diego Mauricio who scored his 10th goal of the season.

FC Goa goalkeeper Dheeraj was crucial for his team right before half-time as Odisha FC pushed for an equalizer through Lalhimpuia but the goalkeeper made a cracking save to keep the lead for Goa at half-time. The game was simmering for quite a while but players went into half-time with the game at a boiling temperature.

Odisha FC stepped on the accelerator after half-time as the bottom side pushed for a morale-boosting equalizer. Bradden Inman and Diego Mauricio came whiskers away from netting in the equalizer as Goa held their collective nerves in this period of play. Their moment to land the knockout blow came in the 75th minutes when Ivan Gonzalez scored the 3rd goal for FC Goa from a rebound save by the Odisha FC goalkeeper and before the defense could sort their feet out, the Spanian finished valiantly to make it 3-1.

Ivan Gonzalez also ended up hitting the crossbar from a header in the final few minutes of the match but Goa held their defensive shape and managed to beat Odisha by 3-1. Ivan Gonzalez was awarded the Hero of the Match for his solid defensive performance and offensive efficiency while Saviour Gama was awarded the DHL Winning Pass of the Match for his assist to Jorge Ortiz’s goal.
