ATK Mohun Bagan were off the blocks in style after kickoff as they dominated the ball and created a few chances early on in the match. With SC East Bengal opting to sit deep, it was pretty much one-way traffic. Tiri played the ball over the top of the SC East Bengal defense as the Fiji international Roy Krishna got into his stride and beat the defenders and passed the ball into the back of the net after beating the goalkeeper to give ATK Mohun Bagan the lead in the Kolkata derby.

Subrata Pal made a decent save later on in the first half as ATK looked to up the ante after taking the lead. Having stayed in the game for 41 minutes, a long throw by SC East Bengal’s Raju Gaikwad deflected off Tiri’s head into the back of the ATK Mohun Bagan net and the game was level at 1-1 as the teams went into half-time.

David Williams and Bright Enobakhare came close for ATKMB & SCEB respectively with early ambitious efforts at the start of the 2nd half in the derby. SC East Bengal kept their foot on the accelerator at the start of the half and seemed to dominate the first 20 minutes of the half, but were fruitless in their effort to take the lead.

A mistake by the East Bengal captain Daniel Fox resulted in the ball generously gifted to Roy Krishna who found his attacking partner David Williams as the ball ended in the back of the net for the second goal for ATK Mohun Bagan. SC East Bengal attacked valiantly but only came close as Sarthak’s header from a corner in the 83rd minute almost ended up being an equalizer.

In the last minute of the 90, Javi Hernandez and Roy Krishna had neat exchanges in the East Bengal half as Krishna assisted Javi for the third goal that sealed the match in favor of ATK Mohun Bagan. The match ended 3-1 as ATK Mohun Bagan did the double over their noisy neighbors while with 2 assists and a goal, Roy Krishna ended as the Hero of the Match.
