ISL Update: Hyderabad FC stop ATK Mohun Bagan from claiming the ISL Shield

10-men Hyderabad FC prevents the runaway league leaders ATK Mohun Bagan from claiming the shield and finishing top of the league after an entertaining 2-2 draw. While Aridane & Alberg scored for the men in yellow, Manvir and Kotal scored the two goals for ATK Mohun Bagan in a frustrating night for the Mariners at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.

The game started in the worst possible manner for Hyderabad FC in the 5th minute as Chinglensana Singh got sent off for an unfair tackle on ATK Mohun Bagan forward David Williams while being the last defender. A mistake from Pritam Kotal just three minutes later allowed Aridane Santana through on goal and his scuffed effort somehow made it into the correct side of the net. ATK Mohun Bagan started taking the control of the game from there but the resolute defensive shape by Hyderabad FC made it difficult to break them down despite a good chance each for Krishna and Williams.

Liston Colaco had a very good chance to find his teammate and double the scoring after a good run but he took on the shot himself which was well saved by Arindam. Hyderabad headed into half-time at 1-0 with ATK Mohun Bagan needing to find the solutions in the second half.

While Halicharan’s freekick was close and could have potentially doubled Hyderabad’s lead in the second half, the very next move from ATK Mohun Bagan brought them the much-craved equalizer from Manvir Singh. It was in the 75th minute that the next goal of the game came surprisingly again by Hyderabad as Roland Alberg managed a wonderful first-time finish after the headed assist from Aridane Santana to give them a 2-1 advantage.

A short corner by David Williams resulted in a shady equalizer for ATK Mohun Bagan in second-half stoppage time after the goal did have shades of being invalid for the offside but the flag did not go up, unfortunately so for Hyderabad FC while Pritam Kotal grabbed the equalizer. The match ended 2-2 with both teams having a reason to be disappointed at the end of it.

Aridane Santana was the Hero of the Match as the Hyderabad FC captain got a goal and an assist and making an important defensive contribution while Jayesh Rane from ATK Mohun Bagan got the DHL Winning Pass of the Match.
