It was the final match of the season for both Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC but it was the team from the Steel City that ended up trumping Bengaluru by a 3-2 scoreline. Eze, Doungel & Grande scored the goals for Jamshedpur in the first half but Gonzalez & Chhetri almost sparked an incredible Bengaluru comeback in the second half.

The initial few exchanges of the match didn’t have much flair and lacked any spark and creativity. Both teams failed to create any big chances in the first 10 minutes. Udanta Singh created a chance for Bengaluru FC which was saved well by Rehenesh but it was Jamshedpur FC who got the first goal when Aitor Monroy’s dangerous free-kicked was guided home by Eze to give them the lead.

Farukh was excellent in the last game for his team and his assist to Doungel created the second goal for Jamshedpur FC as misery was further piled upon Bengaluru FC after another Aitor Monroy set-piece ended up in the bottom left corner courtesy of the Spanish striker David Grande. Jamshedpur FC took this 3-0 lead into half-time leaving the Bengaluru FC setup to have plenty to ponder upon at the interval.

The second half was like the first half where both teams did take some time to settle into a rhythm before managing to throw any noticeable punches at each other. It was route one stuff from the touchline for Bengaluru FC when a long throw from the left found Fran Gonazalez at the far post who made no mistake of sticking the ball into the back of the net and bring down the Jamshedpur FC lead by one.

Bengaluru captain Sunil Chhetri made a brilliant run from the left into the box who was found by an inch-perfect cross from the right by Harmanjot Khabra which resulting in a thumping header by the skipper to bring down the Jamshedpur lead to only one goal. This was Sunil Chhetri’s 100th goal for the club and a much-needed boost in the 71st minute of the game for Bengaluru.

Jamshedpur FC didn’t have much trouble protecting this slender advantage for the remainder of the game but a late corner from Bengaluru FC resulted in a chance for them which was again well saved by Rehenesh to ensure a 3-2 victory for the club from the Steel City. Aitor Monroy’s two assists and an otherwise dominating midfield performance earned him the Hero of the Match whereas Harmanjot Khabra’s cross for Chhetri’s goal got the DHL Winning Pass of the Match.

A win for Northeast United FC will ensure their place in the ISL Playoffs tomorrow as they play Kerala Blasters FC at 7:30 pm on 26th February 2021.
