Khalid Jamil’s Northeast United have made it to the Indian Super League Semi-Finals after a convincing win against Kerala Blasters in the first half being enough to take them through to the next stage. Goals came from Suhair Vadakkepeedika and Lalengmawia Apuia before the half-time whistle to complete a wonderful league stage for Northeast United.

Northeast United and Kerala Blasters both made an effort to start the game on the front foot. Dylan Fox was free in the box when a cross from the right found him, but the Aussie couldn’t keep his effort on target. Bakary Kone also had a good chance a few minutes later when he put a free header from the corner slightly wide off target.

Northeast United gave themselves a massive shot in the arm when they took the lead after a wonderful Khassa Camara ball put Suhair Vadakkepeedika through on goal. Suhair rounded off the goalkeeper before he comfortably passed the ball in the back of the net to give the lead to Northeast United. The goal came at the right time for the Highlanders to take control of the game.

Lalengmawia Apuia came up with an absolute belter of a strike from a distance which bulleted from his boot onto the underside of the crossbar into the back of the net. The goal capped off a wonderful half for Northeast United who were at the brink of the semi-finals going into half-time with a 2-0 advantage.

Kerala Blasters started the game with good momentum in their favor. Rahul KP had a good chance from the edge of the box which he did hit decently well but failed to test the Northeast United goalkeeper. Luis Machado tested the Kerala goalkeeper in a good move but it was the Jamaican Deshorn Brown who hit the post after coming in from the left-hand side. Brown had another chance in the final minutes of the half when he rounded off the Kerala goalkeeper but unlike Suhair’s goal, Brown could only find the side-netting.

Northeast United managed to play out the rest of the match and sealed a comfortable 2-0 victory to finish their league stage and now have qualified for the playoffs. Kerala Blasters end their season second from bottom and they will be disappointed in their overall performance this season.
