ISL Update: Odisha FC signs off the season with a staggering 6-5 victory over SC East Bengal

The GMC Athletic Stadium saw a record-breaking goal-festive contest that is to be remembered for ages. The 7th edition of Hero Indian Super League saw the highest ever scoring fixture on Saturday, as Odisha FC edge past the Red & Gold Brigades in a 6-5 scoreline.

The 7th edition of ISL turned out to be a disquieting season for both teams, nevertheless wished to bring down the curtains on a positive note. Thanks to the brace of Paul Ramfangzauva and Jerry Mawihmingthanga, who assisted their side to register a suasive win on Saturday.

No sooner the game kicked off, both teams got hold of their promises and delved into the game in a more attacking style. A trademark finish by Anthony Pilkington gave Fowler’s side a lead in the 24th minute of the play.

While it all went down, the Mizoram winger Lalhrezuala who equalized from a corner kick eventually became the first Indian goalscorer for Kalinga Warriors this season. An unfortunate own goal from the Odisha’s netminder Ravi Kumar gave SCEB their second goal in the first half.

 The buoyant plot of the contest had its inciting action in the anxiety-driven second half where goals plundered out of nowhere. In the 47th minute, Paul’s staggering strike from outside the box brought back the Juggernauts on level terms.

In the 50th minute, the Mizoram star Jerry Mawihmingthanga outwitted the SCEB’s custodian Subrata Paul, scored a fine header, and gave his side a comfortable lead. no longer they basked in glory, as the Welsh striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway made it 3-3 with a stunning goal from a distance. 

Nonetheless of a goal-festive game, it was a night to forget for both the shot-stoppers, making it bad to worse and to the worst. The Indian shot-stopper Subarata went once again clueless when Paul Ramfangzauva scored a valiant goal from a distance.

But Odisha FC didn’t stop all the way, it went 5-3 up for the Juggernauts, as Jerry found his net the second time, who scored a lovely volley in the 68 minute mark. Diego chipped the ball to the right flank where Jerry had the right cushion to make it twice. Diego had the last laugh for his side, as he out-boxed the Fowler’s defense in the very next minute from a diligent free-kick. 

After long months of desperation, the Indian striker Jeje found his solitary goal of the season in the 75th minute of the game to make it 6-4. A fine header from Anthony Pilkington in the stoppage time didn’t tweet a result in favor, as Odisha FC made a way to the double-digit points tally.  

Whistles down, the goal-festive contest which solidified a good win for the Kalinga Warriors to end this season on a good note. Fowler’s side made an incredible comeback, but it was just another day for Fowler in this heart-wrenching ISL campaign.
