UFC 259 : The Sneak Peek

The quality of UFC PPVs since the beginning of the worldwide pandemic in March’20 has been great. The quality of matchmaking, once-in-a-lifetime performance by the fighters, and true showmanship on the display have led to the creation of multiple records in terms of total PPV buys, digital interactions, total viewership, merchandise sales, to name a few. With every PPV competing with the previous ones to break these records, UFC 259 will not be any different.

One of the most stacked cards in recent history, the event will be headlined by a super-fight between the UFC Middleweight Champion, Israel Adesanya, climbing up a weight-class to challenge the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jan Blachowicz, in the pursuit of cementing his name in the UFC history, if not already.

But this will not be the only title fight on the card. The co-main event will witness the GOAT, Amanda Nunes, defend her Featherweight strap against her toughest challenge yet in Megan Anderson. Preceding this bout would be the title fight between the Bantamweight Champion, Petr Yan, and the challenger, Aljamain Sterling.

Apart from the three title fights featuring four of the current UFC Champions, the main card also holds the likes of the highly touted lightweight contenders, Drew Dober and Islam Makhachev, trying to climb up the ranking in the stacked 155-pound division, and a veteran, Thiago Santos, trying to get back to the winning tracks against the rising Light-Heavyweight prospect, Aleksandar Rakic.

While a lot of stories are bound to develop out of the UFC 259 card, below are some fights you should look forward to apart from the stacked main card.

  • Kennedy Nzechukwu vs Carlos Ulberg
  • Joseph Benavidez vs Askar Askarov
  • Song Yadong vs Carlos Phillips
  • Dominick Cruz vs Casey Kenney

What to expect?

Fireworks. This is one of those cards where if you blink, you miss. Right from the early prelims to the main event, this card is absolutely stacked. If you need more convincing, the prelims include a former champion in Dominick Cruz (who hasn’t fought on the prelims in years!), and a former 3-time title challenger in Joseph Benevidez, with both of their last fights being for the UFC gold!

More? The likes of Casey Kenney, Carlos Ulberg, Kai Kara France, Song Yadong, Askar Askarov, Islam Makhachev, and Aleksandar Rakic, are most certainly going to be involved in the UFC title picture for their respective divisions in the next couple of years!

It’ll be interesting to see the after-effects of this card in multiple weight divisions. A nightmare for the matchmakers, and heaven for the fans!

We’ll be back with the analysis of the card, so tune in!

See you at the top!
