The team from the Pink City were the champions of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League, back in 2008, led by Shane Warne. The Rajasthan Royals have a few great English players in their squad. Ben Stokes is in superb form and he will be an asset in this year’s IPL. Jos Buttler has been keeping wickets well for England as was evident in the recent series against India. Jofra Archer is a wicket-taker and a must-have in the playing 11.

The addition of the Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman in this year’s auction will give a major boost to the Royals’ pace attack. Apart from that, there are quite a few good spinners like Mayank Markande and Shreyas Gopal.

The presence of some good all-rounders like Chris Morris and Shivam Dube will also strengthen the team further. The addition of Kumar Sangakkara, as the new director of cricket, will bring the much-required mentorship to the franchise.

The most evident weakness is the presence of an experienced captain in the team. Sanju Samson certainly does not have a lot of experience to lead a franchise like the Royals. So it would be very interesting to see his decision-making.

There are a lot of players like Chris Morris, David Miller, Jaydev Unadkat who have had forgettable performances in the recent seasons of the IPL. Ironically Rajasthan Royals have spent exorbitantly high on players like Chris Morris. If he doesn’t perform, it will be a terrible mistake. Indian rookies in the team like Yashaswi Jaiswal haven’t been impressive in the past.

The Royals have a good batsman in the form of Liam Livingstone in their squad. If Chris Morris doesn’t perform, there is always the option of Andrew Tye. There is a lot of Indian talent in the squad. Kartik Tyagi can be used effectively as a pacer.

Manan Vohra has had some good IPL performances in the past. Rajasthan has an option of using pace or spin as per the pitch conditions as their squad has plenty of options for IPL 2021.

The reliability and consistency of players is the largest threat that the Rajasthan squad has for IPL 2021. With so many young and uncapped players, it’s going to be a mammoth task to maintain consistency. If none are in good form, the team will crumble like a house of cards even against the most ordinary of bowling attacks. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, etc. which have a lot of balance in their squads will be difficult to beat.

A lot depends on the ability of Kumar Sangakkara to groom this young talent. Otherwise ‘Halla Bol’ will just remain a war cry. Stay tuned to The Sports Doyen for the coverage of the Indian Premier League!
